He was chosen as the successor to his father's smithy. Story Chapter 512-515 He sees Grid admiring the blacksmiths’ techniques and thinks he wants to become a blacksmith. His smithy has gotten a lot of attention recently and most of the visitors aren’t good enough to be blacksmiths. White decides to shoo him away by offering an impossible quest, Chop Firewood. Grid completes the difficult quest and confuses White. He thinks this young man must be a great woodcutter his father recruited. He gives the quest rewards and Grid leaves. Chapter 529-537 Grid visits the site of the blacksmithing competition and encounters White, who still thinks he is a woodcutter. He asks about the competition and is told it is to reproduce the Red Phoenix Bow. Grid soon realizes the material is the White Phosphorus wood and becomes confident. His greed is mistaken by White as pure passion. White tells him the benefits of winning, one of which is the right to enter the castle dungeon. It is full of Armored Needles, and his father died there several years ago while trying to retrieve Silver Thread. White reveals his father's dream of using the thread to make their smithy the best. He is worried about his ability to win and asks the woodcutter in front of him to help handle the White Phosphorus. Grid agrees. An hour before the competition, the leader of the Blue Flames Smithy, Enoch approaches. He begins insulting White and his family and saying his smithy will be ruined. White wanted to retaliate, but he suppressed his anger. He felt guilty that he was a bad son. While clenching his fists, he starts to bleed, so Grid gives him bandages. Grid tells him he must get rid of this feeling and simply do his best with his skills. He asks White to bring out the bow design. White explains the wood based materials and soon begins to doubt Grid is a woodcutter. Grid analyzes the docment and realizes it isn't going to work. He crumples the design White worked hard on, but soon realizes his mistake and unfolds it. After being asked about the original's appearance, he says it was a white wooden bow. Confident in knowing the material, Grid starts creating the bow. Some of the blacksmiths notice Grid is drawing while near the bow design. They say he might be copying their hard work. They move to stop him, but White intervenes and tells them not to judge someone so casually. They look at his design and realize it is much more similar to the original than theirs. When the competition is starting, Enoch approaches White again, insulting him and his dead father. Grid stands up for White and promises
