Lee Sookyung is a pragmatic, determined, and deeply maternal figure who often masks her emotions to protect others. She believes she knows what is best for her son and is willing to pay astronomical prices or endure public hatred if it means keeping him safe. While she cares for Kim Dokja, she maintains a degree of emotional separation from him. She is highly intelligent and strategic, using her knowledge of the future to lead others. Despite her harsh experiences, she remains committed to her goals, though she harbors jealousy toward figures like Yoo Joonghyuk who replaced her as a primary influence in her son's life.
Lee Sookyung is described as appearing to be in her late 30s to early 50s, possessing a youthful, quiet, and intelligent face with thin lips. She typically has short hair without bangs, though she has been depicted with long brown hair in the webtoon. Her attire often consists of a prison uniform, sometimes layered with a beige trench coat. In the past, she was frequently seen with bruises and injuries due to her husband's abuse. During her earlier appearances in the scenarios, she was seen wearing a mask with reddish-brown hair long enough to cover her body.
Lee Sookyung raised Kim Dokja in an environment marred by an abusive husband, whom Kim Dokja eventually killed in self-defense. To shield her son from the crime, she claimed responsibility, leading to her imprisonment at Seodaemun Prison. During her time there, she turned their tragic life into a published book titled 'Underground Killer' to prevent any suspicion from falling on Dokja, a choice that caused her son to resent her deeply. During prison visits, Dokja shared the contents of the novel 'Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World' with her, providing her with the knowledge she would later use to navigate the scenarios. After her release, she selected the constellation Ungnyeo as her sponsor and formed the New Wave group to survive the apocalypse.
