Meru

Meru was characterized by a dogmatic adherence to his faith, believing that including failsafes in the Black Star would be an admission of a lack of faith in the High Sun. He appears weary and broken due to centuries of perpetual persecution by his own people. Despite his initial rigidity, he was eventually willing to cooperate with Lith when faced with the truth of his creation's failure. He became cynical regarding his own fate, eventually stopping any attempts to escape his cycle of death.

Meru is depicted as an elderly man, described as the eldest among the clerics. He wears a white robe, sports a long beard, and has a hunched back.

Meru and his fellow Clerics of the High Sun engineered the Black Star to defend Kaduria against invaders. Due to a rigid belief that a failsafe would demonstrate a lack of faith in the High Sun's perfection, the device was created without a kill switch or friend-or-foe identification. The resulting catastrophe left the city in ruin, and Meru was held personally responsible by the surviving population. For centuries, he suffered constant execution at the hands of the Kadurians until he became completely resigned to his fate. He was eventually abducted by Redan and brought to Lith, who persuaded the clerics to assist in dismantling the Black Star. During this final attempt, Meru and the other clerics were killed by the artifact after it detected Lith's intervention.
