Supreme Magus
Description
The Yggdrasill, also known as the World Tree, was the most ancient plantfolk on Mogar and the inheritor of the wisdom of the first Awakened. It served as a powerful violet-cored member of the Awakened Council for over 11,000 years. Incapable of physical movement, it communicated by manipulating wind through its leaves. It was driven by a fear that the emergence of new Guardian bloodlines threatened the world's balance. This led it to manipulate Council apprentices and Lith Verhen during the Urgamakka trial. Ultimately, its schemes resulted in its execution by the Awakened Council.
Also known as
The Yggdrasill was cunning, calculating, and ruthlessly pragmatic, prioritizing the preservation of its accumulated knowledge and the perceived balance of the world above all else. It exhibited signs of mental instability toward the end of its life cycle, which manifested as increased volatility and desperation. It lacked moral hesitation, willing to use individuals like Aalejah and endanger Council apprentices as pawns to study threats. Despite its long life, it was ultimately characterized by a paranoid fear of new power sources.
The Yggdrasill species are massive trees that are physically immobile. Because the Tree is too large to display in its entirety, its hologram is depicted as a bonsai tree.
When the original Yggdrasill neared its end, it devised a method to preserve its knowledge by merging its consciousness with a chosen World Sapling offspring. The latest Yggdrasill sent an elf named Aalejah to study Lith's new abilities. It manipulated events to force Lith to reveal his true potential, including luring a dangerous foe to the city during a Council test. When Aalejah discovered the Tree's plans to exploit Lith and endanger apprentices, she severed her connection to it. Because it had endangered the Council's apprentices and reached a state of near insanity, the Council executed the Yggdrasill, though it had already prepared its successor.
