Chapter 198: Ethan Vs Mark Ethan looked at Mark with an intense gaze. He had never been challenged before. His blood started boiling with excitement. In the castle, there was no one who would dare to challenge him, as there were no similar-aged siblings or cousins in the palace. Now he was getting what he always wanted. Ethan replied, "Challenge accepted." Mark smiled, "Good, you are not a coward." Lucas also saw this and didn’t stop. They should see for themselves what he was talking about. "Okay, you can go to that arena." Lucas pointed toward an arena in the training ground. Then he looked at others and said, "You 498 should draw lottery to get your opponent." Soon they all drew their opponents. Sunny’s opponent was a girl with blonde hair. The training ground was enormous, so there was enough space for everyone to battle at once. There would be 250 matches. But they asked for permission to watch Ethan’s battle first and the permission was granted. All the teachers and the instructors went to their positions too,so that they could instantly intervene if anything unnecessary occured. Mark and Ethan in the first arena faced each other. Mark said, "I don’t know what your relationship with Instructor Lucas is, but nepotism won’t get you anywhere, always remember this. Today I am going to give you a lesson so that you will be able to do better in the future." Ethan looked at Mark weirdly. "What are you talking about? Giving life advice and all? Do you think you have the right or capability to advise me? Just fight already. Stop yapping." Mark felt a little humiliated but didn’t retaliate. "I am attacking. Be careful." Then he used a spell without any incantation, "Darkness." This was a dark elemental spell which invaded the opponent’s senses. The opponent would lose his hearing, eyesight, smell, taste, and touch. It was a situation where the opponent would go into a sleep condition without sleeping and wouldn’t be able to control anything. He would become a lamb on the plate waiting to be slaughted. The spell instantly invaded Ethan’s mind. Ethan was now feeling the despair he should have felt. But the boy was a maniac. When that spell attacked him, instead of panicking, he was analyzing the spell, why was this spell acting in this manner? So it was possible to manipulate elements outside of the body in a way one wanted? Why could darkness blind his senses? Could other elements do the same? The elements are different versions of mana, right? So could all elements share their properties with each other? This thought process was very dangerous. This was the thought of a creator, not the thought process of a mortal. The spells were created by someone in the ancient times after thousands of trials in different ways. Then a spell came into being with many forefathers’ research. But they could only do what the universe allowed them, like fire would only burn. But who decided that fire would only burn and not freeze, where was this specific rule coming from? This thought came only after all his senses were lost and he felt detached from existence. Instantly the universe seemed to shake a little. This boy was someone who could bend the law of reality and use spells which he shouldn’t have. So there was a possibility he might even rewrite the rules of the very fabric of reality someday. The universe’s will was probably cursing Mark and his entire generation for using that damn spell on that damn monster. Ethan’s face now had that maniacal smile on him again. He found a path without even trying. But Mark didn’t know what was going on in Ethan’s mind. This Darkness spell was a top-tier spell he had learned since childhood. It was his family’s ultimate spell. Only the chosen ones from the Denver family could learn this. But this spell had a drawback. While using this spell, its target would become totally immobilized as the nervous system was blocked completely. Only he could think in despair. It was created to torture its enemy. But the caster would need to attack physically after that to defeat the opponent, as no other spells could be cast after casting Darkness. So the Denver family would use knight breathing techniques to enhance their bodies like Ethan’s family. Mark’s family’s every magus had significantly developed physical attributes. Mark ran toward Ethan and punched at his gut. Mark was smiling triumphantly. So that was all it took for him? The punch landed on Ethan’s gut but then Mark’s face color changed instantly. Ethan’s body was tougher than a true beast while Mark was just an adept-ranked magus slightly stronger than other maguses. He punched 10 times but his hands started aching. Ethan was still in the spell and hadn’t come out yet. But Mark had to finish the battle soon or else Ethan would come to his senses after getting hits. The instructors were watching this battle with great interest. They knew who and what Ethan exactly was. But the students were watching the battle with disdain in their face. That was all? The instructor wasn’t saying so much bullshit a while ago? Lucas was watching the battle and muttering, "I saw that maniacal smile at that time too. Boy, what is going on in your mind?" Mark took out a short knife. He was getting desperate. He wanted to end that battle soon. In this battle, heavy injury was allowed, only killing was not allowed. Lucas knew about this Denver family spell, so he was getting a little nervous. He knew what Ethan was worth, but he was a kid after all and maybe he wouldn’t be able to counter the spell. Ethan had that smile on his handsome face. Mark’s eyes were wide open. "How is it possible? You should be under my control for at least 2 minutes." Mark instantly took 5 steps back and left the knife in Ethan’s hand.
