Sumaru

Sumaru has reddish-brown eyes and long smooth black hair that he wears in a braided ponytail, his bangs partly curl around his head and parts of his blue Hoshigakure forehead protector. As a child Sumaru's hair was short and straight and not as smooth. He wore a light-coloured shirt.

Like the other ninja of Hoshigakure, Sumaru takes part in star training, a special art that tremendously increased their chakra capacities, but greatly risks severe harms to one's health. As a child, Sumaru was very close to his parents, Natsuhi and Hotarubi. He especially enjoyed star-gazing with his mother and listening to her sing. Later, after a failed attempt to steal the star, Sumaru was told that his parents were killed in battle guarding the fallen star, when in reality, they stole it in an effort to save the villagers from the damaging effects of star training. As a last favour, they asked the Third Hoshikage to lie to Sumaru to protect their family name. Sumaru remembers his mother, especially, through a lullaby she sang to him as a child about a red star called Natsuhiboshi, which is actually the planet Mars. The lullaby serves as his motivation.
