A (Second Raikage)

Eventually, his long service and dedication earned him the appointment of Second Raikage. During his tenure, A entered Kumogakure into a formal alliance with Konohagakure, however, during the ceremony both he, and the Second Hokage were ambushed by the Gold and Silver Brothers, who were attempting to stage a coup d'état. Both A and the Second Hokage were brought to the verge of death during that battle. Overall A's actions helped Kumogakure a lot in the way of achieving peace.

A (Third Raikage)

A's rule was punctuated by the berserk attacks of the Eight-Tails but as Kumogakure couldn't afford to dispose of such a valuable war deterrent, he was forced to look for a suitable jinchūriki in quick succession, after the conclusion of each rampage. During one of these attacks, A fought the Eight-Tails alone, allowing his comrades to escape. Their battle resulted in A receiving a self-inflicted wound to the chest after he collapsed upon his own hand, which became his life's shame. Since this event, he made it a personal duty to combat the Eight-Tails whenever its jinchūriki lost control, eventually making even his son become part of the group that supported him during these occurrences. He chose to seal the Eight-Tails in the Kohaku no Jōhei, resulting in his nephew's death, hoping that someone else would have more success in controlling it.

Abiru

Abiru had only just entered the Academy and was inexperienced in ninjutsu. He used to play games with Tsuchino, Kashike, and Tomari around Sunagakure. He loved football, but when his ball got stuck on a roof he had no way of getting it down since he had yet to learn how to climb walls. Gaara got it down for him, but he ran away in fear. Gaara accidentally attacked Abiru and his friends while trying to stop them, but the appearance of Gaara's uncle saved Abiru's life. Another time, Abiru and his friends bullied Shira for not being able to enter the academy due to his lack of skills in ninjutsu and genjutsu.

Ada

In his plot to kill Jigen, Amado heavily modified Ada, along with her younger brother Daemon, with Shinobi-Ware and Shibai Ōtsutsuki‘s DNA, giving them capabilities exceeding that of Jigen. The effects of her modifications left her forever despising Amado. Because of her superior might, Jigen had ordered for her disposal. Boro was given the order. However, affected by Ada's powers, Boro could not bring himself to complete the task, and instead hid Ada and Daemon in a remote location operated by his cult for his own uses.

A (First Raikage)

At the first meeting of the five Kage, he was accompanied by the future Second Raikage; his long-time bodyguard. He sat alongside the other Kage and told Hashirama that bowing to other Kage was not a sign of a lasting leader. After asking the First Kazekage to give voice to his alternative request, since Sunagakure already had a tailed beast, he expressed outrage when the Kazekage made a demand of receiving 30% of whatever they would pay for a tailed beast from Konoha. As infighting broke out and Hashirama Senju made his plea to them to preserve the future of their children and unite, he looked on intently.

At some point in the past, she met Giichi and married him. Unable to have children, she ends up treating Inari as if he were her own.

Born to the Third Raikage, A was groomed for the position of the Fourth Raikage. At some point, due to A not having a blood sibling who could be his tag-partner, try-outs consisting of young children were gathered in order to determine one, in keeping with a long-standing Kumogakure tradition of the Raikage having a tag-team partner. After many attempts, they found only one child who was able to successfully match A's power and use the Lightning Release: Double Lariat on a training dummy.

After he lost interest in Pochi, Akane threw him into the sea. When Inari hesitated to go in and save him, Akane pushed him in too. Although Inari started to drown, Akane and his friends left. After Kaiza saved Inari, he gave Akane a stern talking to. He appears to not own Pochi anymore.

Years earlier, Akari's village suffered a plague which she and her brother Kagari had survived. They were soon approached by Boro, who invited them to his cult with false promises. Some time later, Kagari was chosen by Boro to communicate with the gods directly. Akari received letters from her brother, but those had stopped as she was left unaware of Kagari's fate for three years.

Akebi contracted an incurable disease of unknown origin. When no cure was found and no treatment effective, her doctors gave up on her. Amado, who had already some experience with cloning, decided it would be more effective to give Akebi a new body rather than try creating a cure from scratch. Akebi died during the nine month period of her clone's development.

Akino

In the anime, after they made a contract with Kakashi, Akino and the other ninken aided him to search the abducted Rin Nohara by the Kirigakure shinobi and acted as a diversion in order to allow them to flee. They also helped searching for the fleeing Orochimaru.

Akita was originally a field ninja with Chamaru as her partner/pet. She is also an old acquaintance of the Seventh Hokage's family. During a mission, Chamaru lost its right hind leg. While Akita was happy to know her companion was still alive and relatively well, she knew that Chamaru was sad of his condition. However, when Katasuke Tōno learned of Chamaru's condition, he got in contact with Akita and made a prosthetic limb for the ninken. So grateful and amazed at his work, she decided to become his assistant.

Akatsuchi

In the anime, Akatsuchi was present during a council meeting to discuss an invitation from Konohagakure and Sunagakure to join an impromptu Chūnin Exams they would be hosting together. As Ōnoki arrogantly believed this was an attempt by the two villages to better gauge Iwagakure's strength for an upcoming fight, Akatsuchi simply suggested they just turn down the offer, to which Ōnoki firmly agreed.

Amachi

He and Orochimaru terrorised the people of the Land of the Sea, and kidnapped the citizens for their deadly experiments (including Isaribi) which included making the ultimate underwater ninja for Orochimaru. He ordered Isaribi to attack ships, promising to return her to her normal form, but truly intending to dissect her once she was no longer of use. He also seemed to know Anko Mitarashi as well, since she was with Orochimaru at that time.

As her granddaughter Wasabi grew up, Amagi would often tell her stories of their clan and jutsu. However, as she would make the jutsu sound grander each time she told it, Wasabi stopped believing the story, and came to think of it as something her grandmother made up.

On a mission with the Fourth Raikage and his comrades, Karai was incapacitated and taken back to Amai for treatment. Though his group had successfully acquired the scroll, he was unable to treat Karai. While in town, he saw Tsunade and reported this to the Raikage. Though Karai objected to this, the Raikage noted that he would have Tsunade heal him. When they approached Tsunade, Amai beseeched Tsunade to heal his comrade despite her refusal due to the bad blood between the two nations. He would later aid Shizune during the procedure to remove the Exploding Insect from his chest cavity.

Amaru

Amaru is an orphan who came from a village in the Land of Fire, her parents died of unknown causes. When she was small, she suffered from a strange illness. No one tried to help her, fearing that they would be infected. Because of this, she became alone and shunned from social interaction with the people of her own village all her life like Naruto and Gaara. Later, she was cured by a kind doctor named Shinnō, whom Amaru grew to idolise, as he was the first and at the time only person to show her kindness. After which, Amaru insisted for Shinnō to make her his student, to which he agreed.

Amayo

Three years before Kakeru Tsuki's death, Amayo had a son with Michiru and married him. The marriage would end in divorce, however, due to Michiru's personality and she couldn't keep her son with her because of the wedding contract she had signed.

Amado Sanzu

Amado's daughter Akebi died of an unknown disease twelve years prior to Isshiki Ōtsutsuki's assault on Konoha. Despite this, Amado wasn't discouraged, believing he could resurrect Akebi by cloning her and transferring her memories into her into a new body by preserving her brain, rather than try to develop a cure for her disease. However, Amado's hopes were crushed as her daughter's clones, later named Delta, despite having the same appearance and memories as Akebi, were completely different individuals. Amado tried to recreate Akebi's personality multiple times, but failed to do so and finally broke down, realising his daughter was gone for good. It was then when Jigen approached Amado, promising to bring his daughter back to life if Amado aided him with his plans, Amado accepting it immediately.

Like many who possessed a kekkei genkai, Ameyuki was hated by most of the people in the village he was born in. The exception was Hohozuki, his only friend. When slavers attacked their village and kidnapped the women and children - Hohozuki included - Ameyuki went after them and killed the slavers with his Mud Release, saving Hohozuki and the others. Rather than thank Ameyuki for stopping the slavers, the villagers became fearful of his power and tried to kill him. Hohozuki made plans for them to escape to Shangri-la, but the villagers found out about this before they could leave and killed Hohozuki. Ameyuki became enraged and killed the villagers, earning him a high bounty and a listing in the Bingo Book.

Ami

She appeared during a flashback to Ino Yamanaka and Sakura Haruno's time in the Academy. During a kunoichi lesson she, Kasumi, and Fuki taunted Sakura about her forehead, prompting Ino to throw a flower (that she claimed was poisonous) into Ami's open mouth. Ami quickly ran away to tell their teacher, Suzume. In the anime, she was also seen in Naruto Uzumaki's flashback during shuriken training as one of Sasuke Uchiha's admirers.

In the novel, Iō's daughter married and moved away from the Bamboo Village to another village nearby. She was about to give birth to her first child, but was killed along with the rest of the villagers during an attack by the Dark Thunder Group. Her mother died from grief on hearing the news and her father swore revenge.

Amuda

Amuda was once a member of the Lightning Group, whose members were all kekkei genkai users that had been persecuted because of their abilities. They would travel around stealing from criminals and giving their plunder to the downtrodden, intending to do for others what was never down for them. Their group eventually earned the attention of Kirigakure, who tricked them into attacking some government officials of a foreign country. Kiri defended the officials from the Lightning Group and killed most of its members; Amuda, Nowaki, and Karyū were among the few to escape. Such injustice caused Amuda to lose his will to live.

He and another Anbu accompanied the Third Hokage in infiltrating a secret bunker with the intention to find out who was behind the disappearances of shinobi from their village. After they disarmed the traps, they confronted the person behind the acts and discovered it was Orochimaru. Having been caught, the Sannin attacked the Anbu and Hiruzen, giving him an opportunity to escape and flee the Land of Fire.

Ao

Ao fought on the battlefields ever since he was a young boy. During the Third Shinobi World War, he defeated a Hyūga clan member and took one of their Byakugan, which he implanted into his right eye socket. With it, he saw through the genjutsu placed on the Fourth Mizukage, who would lose his life to it after its dispel. Years after the war, he encountered Shisui Uchiha, which left enough of an impact on Ao for him to clearly remember Shisui's abilities and his chakra colour.

Anko Mitarashi

When she was a genin, Anko was on a team led by Orochimaru. Their team took part in the Chūnin Exams; during the second round, they confronted a team consisting of Hayate Gekkō, Ibiki Morino, and Tokara. Orochimaru took a strong interest in Anko, teaching her several of his signature jutsu and, in the anime, what he'd learned about immortality. Orochimaru eventually used Anko as a test subject for his Cursed Seal of Heaven. Of the ten subjects, Anko was the only survivor.

When the daimyō restricted the medical treatment during an epidemic, seeking to financially profit off it, Aosa secretly developed a cheaper and more effective treatment for the population. However, the daimyō discovered this and sent his elite assassins to eliminate him and his fellow students. Before being forced into hiding, Aosa gave enough money to his student for them to make the journey to his close acquaintances abroad.

They are then by approached by Kimimaro representing as an envoy for Orochimaru of the Sannin, offering them a place at his newly established shinobi village for a chance to return to their former glory. Arashi, seen as the hope of the Fūma clan, accepted the offer to join along with Jigumo, Kamikiri, Kotohime, and Kagerō.

A former instructor in Konoha, he tricked Idate Morino, his former pupil, to steal the legendary lightning chakra sword called the "Sword of the Thunder God", which had once belonged to Tobirama Senju, the Second Hokage, along with a secret scroll of how to use the sword at full potential. Idate was tricked into believing that this would grant him advancement to chūnin. Once the sword was in Aoi's hands, he fled the country with Idate, who was ashamed of his actions, and they went to Amegakure. When Ibiki Morino and two Anbu members caught up with them, Aoi had the Anbu quickly killed, and Ibiki ended up being captured by the Ame ninja, where Aoi then tortured him to read the scroll. Idate escaped under Ibiki's advice. As Aoi attacked Ibiki, the latter escaped as well. Aoi then later managed to become a jōnin of Amegakure.

Asami had been hospitalised due to an unspecified illness. The day before she died, she and Tatsumi have a trivial argument, after which, Tatsumi refused to speak to her for the rest of the day. By the following day, her condition had worsened, and Asami died before she and Tatsumi get the chance to reconcile.

Asaka and his brothers were orphans who found a home in the Land of Haze's orphanage. Despite it being a smaller and impoverished country, they enjoyed having decent meals. They would also often spend their time playing under a large peach tree.

Araumi Funato

During his time leading the Funato clan, Araumi was known for his dangerous power over water. His efforts eventually took control of all other pirate groups, regularly attacking various islands and trade routes as well as performing abductions around the Land of Water. Eventually, he married Minamo with whom he had three children, who he would put through their rite of passage ceremony to determine their inherited Funato power. During a battle against Kirigakure, Minamo was struck by an enemy attack, being frozen to death. Her final wish was that he raised their youngest child, Ikada, well, believing him to be the future of the clan. Araumi would visit her frozen body throughout the years, leaving her a pearl each time.

After the Fourth Shinobi World War ended, Ashimaru and Hidari lost their jobs, leading to them taking missions directly. Fifteen years later, the pair were hired by Iori, with the objective to retrieve the deed to the Green Banks bridge. Providing Iori with poison, he used it to kill the village head of Green Banks. For three months, the two assaulted the village in an attempt to force the new village head Kiri into handing over the deed.

Asuma Sarutobi

Asuma was born to Biwako and Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage. During his Academy entrance ceremony, Asuma became friends with Kurenai Yūhi. In the anime, during the Chūnin Exams, Asuma was placed on a team with Kurenai and Raidō Namiashi. He later cheered on his classmates during the third round of the Chūnin Exams. During the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's Attack, Asuma along with the other young ninja were barred from participating in the defence of the village by Shinku Yūhi and the other senior shinobi. Asuma then told Kurenai to calm down. A few years after the event, Asuma would become an uncle to Konohamaru.

Asura Ōtsutsuki

In the anime, Asura's birth came with problems, which led to the untimely passing of his mother. Despite this loss, Asura's childhood was peaceful and joyous, spending his time either blissfully alongside his father and brother, or playing with the village children. When old enough, the two began studying Ninshū under their father in the hopes of one of them becoming the great sage's successor. As a child, Asura lived in the shadow of his genius older brother Indra. Having displayed no natural talent himself, Asura came to realise the value and power of the friends and allies he made. Eventually, he awakened his own power which equalled Indra's own. In the anime, despite still admiring his brother's talents, he grew concerned for Indra as he continued to mysteriously grow colder and more distant to others.

She was the only one who knew that her grandfather was alive. When she saw Rock Lee, Naruto Uzumaki, and Tenten on her grandfather's graveyard, they asked her if she knew how to perform her grandfather's technique, and she told them that he was alive, and that he always goes to the graveyard to eat her riceballs.

Babu and his comrades were on a mission to deliver a scroll of secret data while being guarded by Team Minato. While crossing the forest, they were attacked by their opponents, causing Team Minato to split up, leaving Rin Nohara and Kakashi Hatake with the Yugakure shinobi. They take them to the bridge, but Shinbu was injured and fell off the cliff. Switching sides, Babu and Inagi revealed that they were traitors and mortally wounded Iwato by attacking him from behind. They then attacked Kakashi, who defended himself with an earthen wall, and then counterattacked, injuring Babu with his blade. Inagi picked up an injured comrade and they left.

Eventually, the Beekeeper fled to Sora-Ku and, fearing retribution from Iwa, hid inside a Bamboo Forest covered in magic fog that caused people to get lost.

In the anime, it was shown that a young Biwako lived in the newly founded Konohagakure, where she attended the Academy. One day, she fell down in front of it and was comforted by Madara Uchiha, whose look frightened her deeply. Hashirama Senju, however, managed to calm her down by giving her a flower he received earlier.

Black Zetsu

Black Zetsu was created by Kaguya shortly before she was sealed as the Ten-Tails by her twin sons, Hagoromo and Hamura. In the anime, Black Zetsu would approach Indra alone periodically, goading him with praises and curiosity towards Indra's true potential, even going so far as to say he could rival if not surpass the Sage of Six Paths himself. When Hagoromo later named his younger son, Asura, as the new leader of Ninshū, Black Zetsu tempted Hagoromo's elder son, Indra, to go in war with his younger brother. It decided that Indra's descendants, the Uchiha, would be the main cast of the shinobi history it was creating and also modified Hagoromo's tablet to claim that among other things; the Infinite Tsukuyomi would be the Uchiha's salvation. Over the centuries, it manipulated the two brothers' reincarnations in an attempt to get one to awaken the Rinnegan, and also recorded many events for Kaguya, including Madara and Hashirama Senju's last fight at the Valley of the End. Sometime between Madara's death in his battle with Hashirama and the time delayed Izanagi Madara used to resurrect himself, Black Zetsu found out where Madara's body was hidden and hid itself inside Madara's body.

As A wondered if B would have enough control to be able to suppress the beast, Blue told him of the darkness and loneliness that was part of being a jinchūriki. A protested calling him a man of great talent, virtue and lineage, which Blue said none of that mattered and what a jinchūriki truly needed was something to give them strength and fill the void that would be created after the beast was sealed into them.

In the anime, he, Kakashi Hatake and his partner came to the aid of a Konoha lookout that was getting attacked by a group disguised as Iwagakure shinobi, with the intention to create a rift in the peace treaty between villages. Soon after they arrived, the group retreated leading Kakashi to follow them and mercilessly kill all five of the shinobi before their group could collect intel from them.

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Boro was previously one of the many victims of the Infinite Tsukuyomi that was cast by Madara Uchiha under Black Zetsu's machination. However, Boro would openly revere the Ōtsutsuki as gods and the Infinite Tsukuyomi as their means of salvation. He would later join Kara to follow in Isshiki Ōtsutsuki’s plot and became an Inner with his body modified with Scientific Ninja Tools and the DNA of Shibai Ōtsutsuki, though he failed to awaken any shinjutsu.

At some point, Bug joined the secret society, Kara, and became a subordinate of the Inner Boro, which led him to also become a member of the Ōtsutsuki Cult. When Boro was instructed to dispose of Ada, he was affected by her powers of infatuation. Instead, he hid her inside his base, having Bug guard her. Her powers also automatically made Bug become infatuated with her.

In the anime, after they made a contract with Kakashi, Bull and the other ninken aided him to search the abducted Rin Nohara by the Kirigakure shinobi and acted as a diversion in order to allow them to flee. They also helped searching for the fleeing Orochimaru.

Shukaku was sealed into Bunpuku when he was born, making him its first jinchūriki. Before the distribution of the tailed beasts amongst the Five Great Shinobi Countries, Shukaku and Bunpuku fell into the possession of Sunagakure. Bunpuku was feared and despised by his fellow villagers and was kept jailed and under constant guard. In fact, the villagers believed him to be Shukaku itself, and had all but forgotten his true name.

In the anime, when Konohagakure and Sunagakure sent an invitation for Kumogakure to join in an impromptu Chūnin Exams, the Fourth Raikage scoffed at the idea, believing it to be a joined attempt from the two villages to attack Kumogakure while its defences were lowered. A rejected the offer and sent C and Darui to make sure Killer B would not sneak off to this event.

Butsuma Senju

Standing alongside his three sons as the latest war casualties were buried — one of his sons, Kawarama, amongst them — he scolded his youngest son Itama for crying, as shinobi were not supposed to show emotions. When Hashirama confronted him about sending a child like Kawarama to fight, in a fit of rage, Butsuma punched his son, stating that Kawarama had died as a true shinobi. With Hashirama questioning whether or not it was death that made a shinobi worthy and if they weren't simply perpetrating an endless cycle, he told Hashirama anyone with a weapon is an enemy. At his limit with Hashirama, he prepared to strike his son again before Tobirama intervened, and explained that Hashirama was just grieving. Having calmed down himself, he told Hashirama to do the same.

Calm Seas Daimyō

When the country was dealing with an epidemic, the daimyō used this as an opportunity to make a fortune by restricting medical care to only the highest payers, leaving most of the citizens unable to afford it. Later, the daimyō discovered a medical-nin, Aosa, developing a cheaper and more effective treatment for the population, and sent his elite assassins Kurobane and Jujumaru to eliminate him and his students while also securing their treatment variants.

Boruto Uzumaki

Boruto is the first child of Naruto and Hinata Uzumaki, born four years after the Fourth Shinobi World War. He received a younger sister, Himawari, two years later. As his parents continued to stay close to their childhood friends over the years, Boruto ultimately came to know the various parents' respective kids well.

Chamū was the only sabre-toothed tiger in captivity. He worked alongside Kiki in a circus and was their best act.

Chainya

Chainya spied on Sakura when Team 7 sneaked into the Cat Fortress. Suspicious of her, Chainya fought her on the roof, and was besting her until a water tower was damaged, dousing Chainya in cold water, which dropped his body temperature, causing him to give up.

At some point in time, he, along with the rest of his crew were wiped out by the Giant Corpse Crab. Before that happened though, he put his youngest crew-mate Hishaku in a barrel and entrusted him with the broom he had from his youth and told him that as his comrade he would protect him.

At some point in time, Chamaru lost his right hind leg during a mission which Katasuke Tōno replaced with a prosthetic, leading his partner, Akita, to join the village's Scientific Ninja Weapons Team.

Chen

Chen was known as a hero in Konoha. He once had a student who was unable to perform ninjutsu or genjutsu and dedicated himself to becoming a taijutsu master. Both Chen and his student participated in the Third Shinobi World War, with the latter killed in the war due to his inability to learn ninjutsu. The death of his student greatly affected Chen and the shinobi faked his death and gave up being a shinobi. Years passed, his granddaughter Azami would occasionally leave rice balls for her grandfather, the only person to be aware that he was still alive.

Chihare Amano

During the time of Pain's Assault and the Fourth Shinobi World War, Chihare was little and only remembers that her parents took her somewhere for evacuation. As an adult, she read magazines and watched shows that chronicled these events, making her realise how difficult those times were. She had no idea that this could happen because she was always protected. Chihare stayed home while the Five Great Shinobi Countries fought and the shinobi defended their villages with their lives. The girl took apart light bulbs, read scientific books, and all this alone. She constantly lived, being covered by the back of someone else. She was sure that many children the same age felt the same way. At some point in time, Chihare became a member of the Cultural Institute, and also acquired an underground laboratory in the Konohagakure, using the old home of Furie Kanhen. Initially, her specialty was astrophysics. For about six months she observed celestial bodies and discovered a star with strange movements. Little by little it changed its orbit from north to south, and then from south to north, revolving around another star. She reported this to the Cultural Institute, but no one believed that such a celestial body existed.

Chibi

While wandering around the war-torn Amegakure, Nagato collapsed due to hunger. On the verge of death, he was approached by Chibi, who gave him the will to go on. They were later found by Konan, who shared her food with them. Chibi and Nagato joined up with Yahiko and Konan, stealing food from local vendors. The Ame Orphans later wandered too close to the battle between Hanzō and the Sannin, and Chibi was killed in the crossfire. The orphans later buried him and mourned for his loss.

Chino is the only child of En Oyashiro and his wife. As members of the Chinoike clan, they lived in the Valley of Hell. Though life in the valley had been peaceful for many years, being in constant close proximity eventually caused disagreements between clansmen to erupt into violence; only Oyashiro and Chino survived. Oyashiro regretted his role in the deaths of his clan, especially his wife's, and wished for Chino to grow up to be better than he was. To that end, he took advantage of Chino's young age by concealing his relationship to her, instead telling her that he had her entire family killed so that she would become the last possessor of the Ketsuryūgan, and thus a valuable commodity.

Chiyo, often called Honoured Grandmother Chiyo (チヨバア様, Chiyo-baasama) by the Sunagakure villagers, was the village's poison, and puppet expert. She and her brother Ebizō were highly revered in Sunagakure and were known as the Honoured Siblings (御姉弟, Gokyōdai). Chiyo was very knowledgeable when it came to handling poisons and used her skills often during the Second Shinobi World War, only to be countered numerous times by Tsunade's medical expertise. This caused Chiyo to hold a grudge against Tsunade, who she came to call "that slug-girl" (あのナメクジ娘, Ano Namekuji-musume), or the "Slug Queen" in the English dub. During the war, she also fought Hanzō and his salamander numerous times, learning how frequently it can use its venom and eventually developing an antidote against it.

He was once part of the Twelve Guardian Ninja, indicated by the sash on his waist, at which time he developed a strong friendship with Asuma Sarutobi. During this time, some underground organisation put a 30 million ryō bounty on his head.

The next day, Chiyo woke Naruto, who disguised as Shū, and notified him of breakfast's start and later takes literature classes with Naruto. Chiyo watched Naruto train with Tatewaki and was quick to notice his strange skills. Realising Naruto was only pretending to be Shū, she held a weapon to his neck and threatened him, asking where the real Shū was. However, after using a smoke bomb, Naruto was able to escape. She found Naruto once again, but was unable to fight him due to the Akatsuki's invasion. She was saved by Tatewaki and protected by Naruto during that time, and at the invasion's end, was able to escape to the Land of That with Shū where his father welcomed her into their home.

Chōmei and the tailed beasts first came into being in the waning days of Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, who used his Creation of All Things Technique to divide the Ten-Tails' chakra into nine separate bodies and giving each a name. Some time after being created, the Sage explained to the young tailed beasts that a link existed between them despite their separation. He also foretold of a day when they would be brought together again - though not as they were - and that at that time someone would emerge to show them what true power is. In the anime, before his death, Hagoromo sent Chōmei to live in a temple built for the purpose of protecting it in a closed forest region covered by mosses.

Chōchō Akimichi

Chōchō is the only child of Karui and Chōji Akimichi. As her parents continued to stay close to their childhood friends over the years, Chōchō ultimately came to know the various parents' respective kids well. From a young age, Chōchō would often have sleepovers with Inojin and Shikadai, even having matching pyjamas. Their parents would also continue Asuma Sarutobi's tradition of taking the kids to Yakiniku Q to celebrate accomplishments. In the anime, when she was younger, Chōchō had very high fever. Her parents worked earnestly to get a special medicine for her, which caused Chōji to trim down so much that Chōchō didn't recognise him, making her have lingering doubts about her parentage. On the day of the Seventh Hokage's inauguration, Chōchō attended the ceremony with her parents, where she ran into Sarada Uchiha.

Chōseki

Chōseki left his profession as a shinobi, eventually settled down in Tanzaku Quarters to seek a more luxurious life, with his fellow fallen ninja Gantetsu. In the anime, Chōseki became a yakuza.

Chōza Akimichi

When he became a genin, Chōza was partnered with Shikaku Nara and Inoichi Yamanaka. In the anime during the Third Shinobi World War, Chōza became responsible for his own genin team, consisting of Ebisu, Genma Shiranui and Might Guy. Nearing the end of the war, his team was assigned to deliver a request for a peace treaty between Konoha and Iwagakure. Anticipating the Iwa shinobi to turn hostile, the meeting was strategically held at the borderline of the Land of Wind, knowing that the Fourth Kazekage would oversee the meeting should a battle break out nearing Suna territory.

Chūkaku

A ninja monk and scholar, Chūkaku taught Chiriku sometime before his death and was eventually interred at the cemetery in the Fire Temple. Kabuto would later reincarnate him by accident while looking for Chiriku.

Chōjūrō

In the anime, shortly after the Fourth Mizukage's passing and Mei Terumī was made the Fifth, Chōjūrō was present when the village received an invitation from Konohagakure and Sunagakure to join an impromptu Chūnin Exams they would be hosting together. Ao noted that the village was still recovering from the Fourth's passing, so it was decided the Kiri-nin would not take part in this event.

According to Condor, Chūji is trapped in a four-way lovers spat with King, Hippo Boss and Don over the affections of Armadiko. Whenever the four are together, they immediately start fighting believing themselves to be the most suitable partner for Armadiko.

Chōji Akimichi

Chōji was born into the Akimichi clan, and is slated to become the Sixteenth Head of the Akimichi (秋道16代目当主, Akimichi Jūrokudaime Tōshu) after his father, Chōza. When Chōji was younger, he was often put down for not being good at a child's game called "Ninja", which appears to be a cross between tag and hide and seek, often employing the use of shuriken made out of cardboard and sticks. His peers would always berate him, telling him that any team that he was on was bound to lose. One day, they simply refused to let him play at all. However, Shikamaru Nara stuck up for him, saying that the teams would be uneven if Chōji didn't join them. This gave Chōji a little hope, although, in the end, they still refused to let him play.

Some time after he returned home, he escaped again and trained himself in becoming a ninja ostrich and learning to speak. Since then, he considered Naruto Uzumaki his rival who prevented his freedom. Some time after Sasuke's defection, Condor had escaped once again and had trained himself to learn techniques and to speak. Kotetsu Hagane, Naruto, Shino Aburame, and Rock Lee were assigned to capture him. Condor, along with a few other animals, were trying to keep themselves free of domestication. He was defeated with the teamwork of Kotetsu and Izumo Kamizuki.

At the time Kawaki was brought to Kara, Code was one of fifteen candidates selected to participate in Jigen and Amado Sanzu's Ōtsutsuki ritual to screen for a Kāma vessel for Isshiki. Only Kawaki survived to become an actual vessel. Code, on the other hand, displayed shaking and spasms such as the unsuccessful and deceased candidates, but managed to survive upon which his branded mark became a White Kāma.

Daemon and his older sister were modified with Shinobi-Ware and Shibai Ōtsutsuki‘s DNA by Amado Sanzu in his hopes of bringing down Isshiki Ōtsutsuki's vessel Jigen. Daimaru was a young shinobi from Sunagakure who grew up alongside Temari. He quickly fell in love with her, seemingly not intimidated by her relation to the Fourth Kazekage or Gaara. Because he couldn't express his interest in her, he used to prank her as an alternate means to get her attention. Some time later, Daimaru died during a C-rank mission.

Soon after that, Dan was fighting in the Second Shinobi World War, in which he killed countless shinobi with his Spirit Transformation Technique. Ultimately, he was fatally wounded during a battle, and while Tsunade was able to stop the bleeding, it was a lost cause as the blood loss was too severe and Dan succumbed to his injuries. Tsunade would later take on Dan's niece, Shizune, as an apprentice and leave the village sometime after that, retiring from life as a shinobi.

Born into the Shimura Clan to his shinobi father, Danzō went onto joining the Academy, where he was amongst the first few hundred of students to graduate. His father and grandfather both died in service to the village as shinobi, fostering a strong impression of service on Danzō from a young age. From his genin days, he was acquainted with Hiruzen Sarutobi, whom he became rivals with in everything. Danzō once saw the First Hokage in battle, where he witnessed Hashirama's formidable Wood Release.

Deidara's exploits eventually caught the attention of Akatsuki, and Itachi Uchiha, Kisame Hoshigaki, and Sasori were sent to recruit him. Deidara refused at first until he accepts a challenge from Itachi on the condition that Akatsuki let him be if he won. However, Deidara was easily defeated by Itachi's Sharingan and begrudgingly joined the organisation where he was partnered with Sasori. In the anime, Sasori and Deidara were immediately tasked with eliminating Orochimaru for betraying the organisation. Upon arriving in the Land of Wind and witnessing the Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation by Orochimaru, the Sannin retreated after his technique proved incomplete. After Deidara attempted to kill him by blowing up his base, Deidara and Sasori searched the ruins but were unable to confirm his death as they didn't find his corpse. At some point afterwards, Deidara returned to Iwagakure and left it in destruction after detonating a bomb within the village, as he flew away.

When Akebi contracted an incurable disease, rather than trying to develop a treatment, her father Amado decided to clone her, preserving her brain and creating a backup of her memories, which he implanted in the clone. Despite the clone having all of Akebi's memories, her personality was entirely different. Amado repeated the process several times, but never succeeded in recreating Akebi's personality. Akebi's clones came to be known as Delta, and joined Kara along Amado when Jigen promised him to resurrect Akebi if he helped him achieve his goal.

Dekai was put into Team 6, consisting of future well known figures, Jiraiya and Minato Namikaze. During the Third Shinobi World War, Dekai and his team confronted the Iwagakure jinchūriki, Rōshi and Han. Thanks to Minato, the team was able to safely teleport away from their Tailed Beast Balls. After the successful escape, Dekai had thought he had gone to the afterlife. Later, after the team returned to Konoha, Dekai informed Minato that the team needed to report their mission to the Third Hokage.

Demonic Statue of the Outer Path

Madara used the husk, which he named the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, as a catalyst to cultivate Hashirama Senju's cells, producing a non-sentient clone of Hashirama housed within a gigantic flowering tree. He was then able to live beyond his natural lifespan by attaching himself to the tree, which served as a means of life support by continuously supplying him with the Demonic Statue's chakra. Madara believed that the combination of the Demonic Statue and Hashirama's cells caused artificial humans to grow on the tree's branches, but in actuality, Black Zetsu was secretly removing them from inside the statue, where they had been stored for centuries. At some point, Madara transplanted his Rinnegan into Nagato without the boy's knowledge, making him the only other person capable of summoning the statue. When Obito Uchiha later agreed to continue Madara's Eye of the Moon Plan following his death, the elderly Uchiha explained that he must revive the Ten-Tails by sealing the nine tailed beasts inside the statue. Madara then disconnected himself from the statue's chakra, and with his dying breath, told the young Uchiha that he was to act using his name until the time of his resurrection.

During the Third Raikage's reign, Dodai instructed a select group of children, informing them that only one amongst their number would earn the name "B" and become A's tag-team partner in order to protect the future Raikage. He then instructed them on how to perform the Lightning Release: Double Lariat on a rubber training dummy, while indicating that the result would reveal their capacity to fulfil the duty of "B". As the prospective candidates failed one after the other, he lamented that the day seemed as though it would end in failure, until he observes A and a young Killer B decapitate the dummy.

One day, Dokan accidentally bumped into Saisu Kamano and his two friends. Angered by the behaviour of the three freshmen, he quickly snapped and attacked them. When they hid behind Itachi, Dokan asked him if he was their friend, to which Itachi simply raised his hand to challenge him to a duel. However, the furious Dokan ignored his official challenge and attacked him unceremoniously, just to be quickly defeated by the child genius.

Disonasu was a known criminal who made use of summoning techniques and committed thousands of murders. He once battled the Akatsuki leader, Pain, though he lost and was horribly scarred. To recover the "power" he lost, Disonasu became a scholar and studied the history and meaning of The Hole, intending to receive the power of the Ama no Hoko to get his revenge. Though he became the head of Hachō Village to locate the Saezuri, a device capable of bringing forth the Ama no Hoko, Disonasu could not act on his plan due to Tonika Village's militia. At some point, he also studied the Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation technique alongside Orochimaru.

In his youth, Dokku was close friends with Shiseru, a girl from the Hachō Village. One day while playing, Shiseru fell over the edge of a cliff. Dokku managed to grab her hand and hold her for almost an hour, but was too weak to pull her up. After some time, the grip loosened and Shiseru fell. Luckily, she landed on a tree and survived, but frustration at his inability to save her led Dokku to become part of Tonika village's local militia. Years later, however, he was fired for unknown reasons and became a teacher.

In the anime he, Kakashi Hatake and his partner came to the aid of a Konoha lookout that was getting attacked by a group disguised as Iwagakure shinobi, with the intention to create a rift in the peace treaty between villages. Soon after they arrived, the group retreated leading Kakashi to follow them and mercilessly kill all five of the shinobi before their group could collect intel from them. He later reported back to the Fourth Hokage about the matter and how Kakashi was copping following Rin's death.

When a wild boar began to come to the gardens of the inhabitants of the country and spoil the harvest, Taizō gathered friends and offered to hunt him down. Although Gasuka remarked that it was dangerous, Taizō assured him that Asura would protect them with Ninshū, who agreed, and Edashi talked about the animal ruining the gardens. After some time, they managed to reach the boar, which pursued Asura and killed Shiro who was protecting him. Edashi and the others hid in a tree while Asura was rescued by his brother Indra.

Jiraiya promised that their students instead should one day seek each other out and fight if the two never met again. When Fugaku's wife Mikoto gave birth to their second son, with Hiruzen's blessing, Fugaku proudly named the baby Sasuke after the Third Hokage's father.

With this set of priorities, Kisame resolved to massacre his own teammates when they were in danger of falling into the hands of Ibiki Morino during a mission to protect such valuable information. Later, Fuguki was revealed to have been leaking information to enemies, and was killed by Kisame, with his corpse visibly impaled by sharp implements tied to chains. Kisame would then take Samehada for himself, becoming a member of the Seven Swordsmen, Yagura's direct subordinate and Madara Uchiha's accomplice.

The Konoha ninja, assuming the couple were enemy ninja, attacked and quickly killed both of them.

Several years after the battle against Kaguya Ōtsutsuki and the Ten-Tails ravaged the land, Futami took residence near a broken bridge. Whenever someone who wanted to cross it came by, Futami would approach them, claiming he would help them cross the bridge, only to rob them and run away. One day, Hagoromo came by the bridge, and decided to rebuild it, much to Futami's chagrin, who considered the bridge's reconstruction as a threat to his way of life. Hagoromo also exposed him to a would be victim. After watching Hagoromo work on the bridge for a couple days, Futami joined in, wishing Hagoromo to leave as soon as possible, figuring he could just destroy the bridge again after Hagoromo's departure. As he helped Hagoromo, others took interest in helping with the bridge, and Futami grew to appreciate how he felt and was perceived by others when helping, taking pride in the effort he put in rebuilding the bridge. When the bridge was complete, Futami decided against destroying the bridge, and left with Hagoromo.

In the anime, Fū was among many promising young children from various clans of Konohagakure that was personally selected and recruited by Danzō Shimura to join Root, much to the dismay of Inoichi Yamanaka. His training was directly under Danzō's supervision.

The two brothers originated from an unknown village. They once killed their comrades over a meal, and calmed down immediately afterwards. After the incident, they were locked up in Konoha Strict Correctional Facility, though the ones who apprehended them struggled with their mighty strength. At some point in their past, they had an encounter with Tsunade. The details are unknown but what ever it was the brothers have been terrified of her ever since.

At some point, Fū became the jinchūriki of the Seven-Tails, Chōmei. In the manga, at some unspecified time either before Gaara's capture by Deidara, or some time in between Gaara's capture and the capture of Yugito Nii by Kakuzu and Hidan, Fū was captured by the Akatsuki, as after Yugito was sealed, according to Pain only three tailed beasts remained uncaptured, and she thus died from having the Seven-Tails extracted from her body. In the anime, growing up in Takigakure as the village's jinchūriki, the village leader Shibuki took great care in keeping Fū protected. He also taught Fū the importance of friendship and loyalty.

In one of the battles, his team clashed with Kumogakure's A–B Combo. During Minato's fight with A and Killer B, Gaku expressed his shock over the latter's jinchūriki transformation. Directly afterward, Gaku and his comrades received a signal to retreat, leading him to inform Minato that they are pulling back for the moment.

Because of heavy cuts to Sunagakure's budget by the Wind Daimyō, the Fourth Kazekage wanted to make one of his children the jinchūriki of the tailed beast Shukaku to serve as a weapon for the village. His first two children, Temari and then Kankurō, had not been compatible with Shukaku. Rasa's third child, however, Gaara, was compatible with Shukaku. For that reason, Shukaku was sealed inside of Gaara by Chiyo before he was even born, when Gaara was still a fetus inside of his mother Karura's womb. Gaara ended up being born prematurely and tiny. From the ordeals of childbirth, his mother, Karura, died. Before dying, Karura looked lovingly at Gaara's small form and vowed to always protect him.

He revealed to them the sinister nature of their mother's regular ritual to the God Tree, urging them to seek out the truth. Once the twins learned about the people being offered to the tree, they sought out Gamamaru to hear the whole truth about their mother's actions and the dangers posed by the God Tree, as it was continuously draining Natural Energy from the world, depleting the supply.

In order to do this, Jiraiya summoned Gamariki who used his Genjutsu Kiss on him, sending him into a world of illusions. In attempting to release the genjutsu, Naruto unintentionally ended up releasing chakra much in the same manner as his Rasengan, knocking Gamariki into a canal and knocking him out. It was revealed that this was the reason the two dislike each other.

Like his father before him, Ganno was a painter active in Redaku's capital city. Painting became an obsession for him over the years, to the point that he was never without a paintbrush and took little interest in activities outside of painting. Despite these eccentricities, Ganno was evidently quite popular, as he was often hired to paint portraits of nobles living in the capital. But when it was discovered that he was using these portraits to pit rival nobles against each other, he was arrested, convicted of state treason, and sentenced to seventeen years in prison.

Ten years ago, Ganryū and his team were sent on a mission to retrieve a document taken by Kumogakure, with the assistance of Iwagakure. However, when the document was retrieved, the Iwa shinobi betrayed the Kiri team and killed Junsai and Suiren, the latter sacrificing herself to save Ganryū. This incident would become known as the Tragedy of Yosuga Pass which began the hostilities between the two nations. Since that day, Ganryū has held a deep hatred against Iwagakure.

When he was young, Garaga entered into a summoning contract with a shinobi. In one of their battles, his summoner wanted to retreat, but Garaga wanted to keep on fighting, so the summoner betrayed him, attacking him with Lightning Release, which blinded his right eye. Since then, he became so violent that even the other snakes avoid him, prompting the White Snake Sage to consider him a nuisance.

Growing up in Amegakure, Garashi was orphaned following the Fourth Shinobi World War. He was taken in by a man who raised him and other children as a family. The man also taught them some ninjutsu. As Amegakure continue to fall into ruins, Garashi grew desperate to survive. He by chance met Kara, who inspired Garashi to join their campaign of changing the world. To prove his loyalty to them, Garashi without hesitation killed his friends to hide Kara's existence. He began operating in the village as a scout to make sure no one would learn of Kara's existence.

Gantetsu

While he was a member of the group he began to feel guilty for what he was doing. Gantetsu thought he was saving the orphans, but he still knew that losing their parents was something awful and decided to put a stop to the ninja drop-outs. He saved the children from the houses they razed, hiding them in the Forest of Bewilderment. He also stole the treasure they had stolen together, and then he let his comrades to believe that he was captured so that they would come "rescue" him in order to learn where the treasure is. He hoped that by doing so his former comrades would get caught and that would be the end of the ninja drop-outs. Despite this, he knows that he can never completely atone for his crimes.

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Madara Uchiha cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi upon the world in an attempt to bring an end to all conflicts. The Infinite Tsukuyomi was lifted shortly afterwards and Madara died, signalling to many that his plan was a failure. But Garyō believed that Madara's goals were admirable and could be achieved through different means. In Garyō's view, the conflicts that Madara wanted to end were caused by money: money created inequality, bringing happiness to those with money and unhappiness to those without it. In order to free the world from money's influence, Garyō formed the Ryūha Armament Alliance.

Gatō was a powerful shipping magnate whose shipping company was actually a front for much shadier activities, such as smuggling contraband and trafficking drugs. He took control of the Land of Waves' shipping routes and created a monopoly by isolating the country from the outside world, preventing free sea-freighting and turning it into an impoverished, hunger-stricken country in the process. He was a cruel man, responsible for humiliating and killing Kaiza in public for standing up to him. Kaiza's death immensely demoralised the people of Wave, to the point that they no longer had the courage to stand up to Gatō. Gatō was protected by two bodyguards, Zōri and Waraji.

Gekkō

Once a shinobi from the Land of Snow, Gekkō worked closely with Ryōgi's father on missions. Ultimately, however, he wanted more and formed the Byakuya Gang, gathering allies under the pretence of helping the less-fortunate while steadily building up his own personal fortune. Realising Ryōgi's potential power, Gekkō killed the young boy's parents and altered his memories, making him think that Gekkō saved him from his parents' murderer. He then swayed Ryōgi into joining the Byakuya Gang, claiming that his father was also a part of it.

In the anime, Jigen had chosen Garō as a candidate to be his new vessel. Unlike most who were incompatible and died as a result, Garō survived, but at the cost of his arms. Some time after his arms where replaced, he met Kawaki when the boy attempted to leave the Kara hideout. Garō was surprised to see that he was a successful inheritor of a Kāma and he offered to teach him about the organisation. When he refused, Garō decided to discipline him. In fear for his life, Kawaki activated his Kāma and blasted Garō. His confrontation with Kawaki left his jaw disfigured, leading to him developing a grudge against the boy.

When the Fourth Shinobi World War begins, the Shinobi Alliance sends B and Naruto Uzumaki, the only two remaining jinchūriki, to the island to be hidden from Akatsuki.

Ages before the establishment of hidden villages, Genbu visited the Land of Ancestors to confer with its lord, Tenji. After Suzaku made his case for having a lake in the Land of Ancestors' territory be passed to the Land of That, Genbu assured Tenji that returning rightfully owned territories would be the right thing to do, implying that failure to comply would result in an armed conflict between the two countries. When Suzaku brought up Kaguya, Genbu voiced interest in meeting her. A few nights later, he and Suzaku brought a great army to the border. When Suzaku received word from a spy about Kaguya moving to the capital, Genbu said there wass no need to hurry in seizing her, as they would soon take the entire country. The next day, Genbu attended peace negotiations with Tenji, making up excuses for moving such a large army to the border. He listens as Suzaku recounts the events of the previous night. After Tenji left, Genbu asked Suzaku about his condition, only to be dismissed. He and Suzaku began taking over the country that night, but they along with their army were taken by Kaguya's Infinite Tsukuyomi and bound to the roots of the God Tree.

Genji spent much of his lifetime contributing to Kirigakure's development. He holds as much importance within the village as its Mizukage and his advice is sought for when it comes to the villages most important matters, essentially making him the law of Kirigakure.

During his lifetime, Gengetsu had a mutual enmity with the Second Tsuchikage, which ended in both men killing each other in what would be their final confrontation. From this rivalry, he also knew Ōnoki when the latter was a child and had constantly picked on him.

Gengo, alongside other fellow shinobi from Kirigakure at the time, allied with Zabuza Momochi in rebellion against the Fourth Mizukage: Yagura Karatachi, and his destructive methods of ruling over the village. Due to a traitor in their group, however, Zabuza and the rest of his followers, including Gengo, were forced to flee the village forever. After the incident, Zabuza and most of his other followers began collecting capital as mercenaries, never letting go of their dream to go back to their motherland. When Zabuza began accepting work from corrupt people, however, Gengo — alongside many others — left and became disillusioned about such goals.

When Genma became a genin, he was put on a team with Might Guy and Ebisu, under the leadership of Chōza Akimichi. During part of their chūnin exams, his team confronted Team Minato. Other than that, not much is known about Genma's background except for the fact that he became an elite guard to the Hokage. During his time serving under the Fourth Hokage, he was taught the Flying Thunder Formation Technique.

When his village was wiped out, Gennō was the only survivor. Decades later (after doing work in the Land of Sand), with his life failing, Gennō decided to resurface his last mission from his village. He began by infiltrating Konoha as a carpenter, where he was hired by Kanna. After successfully placing himself within the village, he stole the blueprints of the fort structure around Konohagakure to refine his leftover traps from his last infiltration. After the village was left preoccupied with threats of an impending invasion by a neighbouring country, it was left to the Konoha 11 to stop Gennō.

However, they survived by eating the flesh of the beast, and thrashed inside the tailed beast's stomach for two weeks, eventually forcing the Nine-Tails to regurgitate them. Upon their escape, they both came out looking like miniature versions of the beast, due to having acquired a portion of the fox's chakra. During a peace treaty ceremony between Konohagakure's Second Hokage and Kumogakure's Second Raikage, the two brothers staged a coup d'état that left the Hokage on the brink of death. At some point, he met Kakuzu, and he was still alive during the time of Third Raikage.

At some point, a group of people came to him, wanting to build a power plant on the site of his dwelling and tried to persuade him to give up the land, but Gojō was adamant and opposed them.

On one occasion, he murdered a family of three and left the blame on another man that he briefly fought upon departure. That man was the local blacksmith Tokichi (who became Sazanami) who fled from the vengeful villagers and became a bounty hunter to hunt down Gosunkugi. As a member of the Iburi clan, Gotta lived in hiding with the rest of his clan until Orochimaru discovered them. Using the cursed seal to stabilise their abilities, he manipulated the clan into giving him their children for the purposes of his experiments. Gotta seemingly led the clan in the absence of either Orochimaru or Danzō. One day, Orochimaru's experiments were discovered by Konohagakure, forcing him to abandon the village. The Iburi clan learned of this from one of Danzō's followers, "Kinoe". The clan vowed to help Orochimaru escape. Meanwhile, the youngest member of the clan, Yukimi, believed Kinoe was her lost brother Tenzō who went to Orochimaru as a test subject.

Gozu (Root)

Gozu and his younger twin brother, Mezu, were surgically altered to look like Kagen Uchiha, allowing them to take turns spying on the Uchiha clan by impersonating Kagen. When not in the village impersonating Kagen, Gozu wore a red marked mask resembling a monkey. Both reported directly to Danzō about their findings for several years, but in the year leading up to the Uchiha Clan Downfall, they also helped Itachi Uchiha as he tried to avert the clan's attempted coup. After the clan was wiped out, Gozu was apparently killed by Itachi so that Itachi could impersonate him and get close to Danzō.

At some point in the past, Gozu was dying from thirst and food deprivation. Guren saved his life by giving him a ladle of water. Whilst not enough to sate his thirst, it was enough to keep him alive.

In the anime, after they made a contract with Kakashi, Guruko and the other ninken aided him to search the abducted Rin Nohara by the Kirigakure shinobi and acted as a diversion in order to allow them to flee. They also helped searching for the fleeing Orochimaru.

Gyūki and the tailed beasts first came into being in the waning days of Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, who used his Creation of All Things Technique to divide the Ten-Tails' chakra into nine separate bodies and giving each a name. Some time after being created, the Sage explained to the young tailed beasts that a link existed between them despite their separation. He also foretold of a day when they would be brought together again - though not as they were - and that at that time someone would emerge to show them what true power is. In the anime, before his death, Hagoromo sent Gyūki to live in a temple built for the purpose of protecting it in a region surrounding a range of tall mountains between the clouds, that would later become part of the Land of Lightning.

Gōshō was the son of Mashō, the leader of Ceramic Village. Mashō, the creator of the Hanasaki style of ceramics, had strong artistic sensibilities. When the clay used in Hanasaki began to run out, Mashō refused to compromise his standards, in turn threatening to ruin the village once the clay inevitably ran out. To stop this from happening, Gōshō secretly killed his father and all the other Hanasaki practitioners, telling everyone they'd abandoned the village. He hid the remaining supply of Hanasaki clay, forcing the village to pursue new art styles.

As a child, Guren came from a small village where she was shunned by others because she had unique powers. Later, Orochimaru appeared and destroyed the entire village single-handedly. He was intrigued by Guren's powers and offered for her to come with him. Guren chose to follow him because she envied his power.

Hagiri's mother and sister died during the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's Attack while he watched helplessly. Because many believed the attack to have been the doing of an Uchiha, Hagiri joined Tenma and Katsura in bullying Itachi Uchiha. Despite being much younger than all of them, Itachi easily defeated them once a fight broke out.

Haguruma

Haguruma was a game programmer. After having to deal with an unforgiving schedule to release a game on time, he and his colleagues decided to file a complaint against their boss. The boss somehow discovered it, and faked evidence of Haguruma selling company secrets, which resulted on him being fired, making him an example for his colleagues. No other company would hire him, and his debts pilled up enough for him to rob a bank.

Haido had bought the Book of Gelel from a merchant overseas (as he claimed, though Kahiko doubted to be so simple), and used it to look for the Gelel vein for powers to rule the world, which led him and his knights to where the vein rests. He and his subordinates, Fugai, Kamira, and Ranke, attacked Temujin's village (although Temujin didn't know about it at the time). The reason Haido attacked Temujin's village was to obtain the Stone of Gelel, which he believed was in Temujin's village. He killed everyone in the village, including Temujin's parents. When he found Temujin, however, he saw potential in the boy and took him as his underling. Haido trained Temujin to become his minion and help him to find the Vein of Gelel. Though he failed to find the actual vein, Haido managed to secure a few Gelel stone fragments, to which he implanted into his four subordinates.

Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki

Alongside Hamura, Hagoromo, the elder twin brother, was born as one of the two children to Kaguya‎‎, a princess who ate the forbidden Chakra Fruit of the God Tree that appeared once a millennium in an effort to gain divine abilities, which she used to put an end to the constant wars during that era. As a result, Hagoromo was born with the ability to manipulate the same type of powerful chakra as his mother. Angered by the fact that her chakra had been spread to others, Kaguya merged with the God Tree into the Ten-Tails, which attempted to reclaim her chakra.

He went to the same cooking academy as Teuchi. Many years after attending the academy, Hakkaku had become a succesful cooking-nin. His food made everyone who ate it keep on eating it, eventually making them fat. However, he became jealous of Teuchi, who had a fabled "Phantom" Recipe, which was highly acclaimed. He visited Teuchi and wanted to know the recipe only to be denied. In an attempt to know the recipe, Hakkaku and his fellow cooking-nin kidnapped Teuchi's daughter Ayame to get the "Phantom" recipe and left a note and a picture of Ayame tied up to Teuchi, saying that he'll let Ayame go in exchange of the recipe.

When Danzō Shimura was killed, it caused Root to be completely disbanded and an investigation on the unit was started. With its activities becoming known to the public, its former members became outcasts. Hakobe told her daughter Sumire to not give up hope, but she herself later died from deteriorating health, despaired and disdained for her family.

Haku's Father

Haku's father was a simple farmer. He eventually married a seemingly normal woman, and the two had a son whom they named Haku. The family lived happily and peacefully for many years. However, this changed when Haku discovered he inherited Ice Release kekkei genkai and showed it to his mother. The father saw this from the shadows, realising that his wife was a member of the Yuki clan. The clan carried the kekkei genkai that the villagers of the Land of Water feared and hated, as the ninja who possessed it had caused great tragedies in their civil war. He assembled a mob and, with tears flowing from his eyes, killed his wife in the cottage they built together. He then attempted to kill his son. However, Haku retaliated in self-defence using his Ice nature, killing his father and the mob.

Due to the kekkei genkai wielding ninja being hated by Kirigakure because of the tragedies they had brought in the war, Haku's mother had to hide her heritage in order to live a peaceful life. She eventually married a local farmer and had a son, whom they named Haku. The couple lived happily and loved their child. However, Haku inherited the Ice Release from his mother, and upon discovering this, he showed it to her proudly. In return, his mother got angry and slapped him, fearing it would ruin the happiness that she worked so hard to build. Though she tearfully apologised to her son and told him not to repeat this demonstration, her husband had already seen it from the shadows. He assembled a mob and, with tears flowing down his eyes, killed his wife in the cottage they built for having the kekkei genkai that they feared and hated so much.

Hakubi Shin

During his time as a Konoha-nin, Hakubi gained recognition as a "special" ninja with decent skills. However, he had the bad habit of stealing while on missions, for which reason he was expelled from the village. Afterwards, he started taking contract work from whoever would hire him. At some point, he heard that Kakashi Hatake lost his Sharingan.

Haku was born in a small, snowy village in the Land of Water, a land that had suffered from war not long before. In this war, different sides battled each other using ninja, some of whom possessed kekkei genkai. After the war ended, memories of the horrific battles still lingered in the minds of the people. Those with kekkei genkai quickly became feared and hated for their abilities, out of concern that their existence would only bring about more war.

Hamaki Mimura

During the Third Shinobi World War, Hamaki's battalion was reduced to a mere four shinobi by their Iwagakure opponents; however, when all apparent hope was seemingly lost, Minato Namikaze arrived. He briefed Minato on the situation and then he, and the other three shinobi, subsequently helped Minato wipe out about fifty opposing Iwa-nin by throwing his Flying Thunder God Kunai behind enemy lines.

Hakuhyō

At some point in time, Hakuhyō and his mother, Kahyō, left Kirigakure in the hope that Hakuhyō would not suffer because of how he was born and be corrupted by the village's dark practices. They would come to settle in the Land of Waves and enjoyed happiness for a time. During an attempt to protect his friend from hornets using his Ice Release, Hakuhyō was stung. Despite saving his friend from the hornets, Hakuhyō's friend abandoned him, not wanting to have anything to do with someone who had weird powers. In an attempt to save her son, Kahyō went to seek doctors, only to find that there were none available due to them being hired by the Allied Shinobi Forces. As a result, Hakuhyō succumbed to his injuries.

Hamura was born as the younger of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's twin sons, the first people to be born with chakra. When Kaguya realised both Hamura and Hagoromo also had the ability to wield chakra, Kaguya — as the Ten-Tails — tried to forcibly reclaim her chakra out of rage and jealousy. Eventually, Hagoromo and Hamura succeeded in defeating and sealing her within Hagoromo. Some time later, Hagoromo created the tailed beasts and extracted the Ten-Tails' husk from his body and sealed it into the Moon, resulting in his death. Sometime later, Hamura and the rest of the clan departed to the Moon, in order to guard his mother's sealed remains, though not before receiving instructions from his brother to wait for a full millennium and observe mankind. There, he used the power of the Tenseigan to bring order and stability to the world of the Moon. Decades later and having grown elderly, Hamura dies of old age while in bed surrounded by his clan members.

Hana Kaka

Hana was among fifty orphans that were taken in by the minister from the Land of Bamboo. She was trained to be a skilled ninja and assassin. Despite this, Hana could never bring herself to kill anyone. Ultimately, as her gentle nature came to conflict with her desperation to live as she was forced to fight to the death against her fellow orphans, Hana's separate goals split herself into two independent personalities, the second of which became the most dominant and one of the minister's most capable assassins, her original personality never aware of any of it.

Han

At some unspecified time in between the war and the capture of Yugito Nii, Han died, as by the time the Two-Tails was sealed, according to Pain only three tailed beasts remained uncaptured. It's unclear if he was captured by the Akatsuki and had the Five-Tails extracted from his body leading to his death, an incident that Iwagakure would have not alerted others of out of embarrassment, or similar to Yagura Karatachi died and the group went on to capturing his roaming Tailed Beast. Ultimately, sometime after his death, Kabuto Yakushi acquired some of Han's DNA, which he used to reincarnate him.

In the anime, Hana entered the Academy at the same time and shared a class with Izumi Uchiha, Itachi Uchiha, Saisu Kamano, and Maruten Akimichi, under the tutelage of Daikoku Funeno. She was not yet accompanied by her ninken at that time.

As a young child, Hanare was said to be very lonely since she had never known her family or seen her own village. She was trained from an early age in the art of espionage. One day, she was found crying in a place near her village by the young Kakashi, who spotted her and carried her on his back. He then explained to her that she can look up to the clouds above and find her way. They both were then seen by a ninja from Hanare's village and Kakashi put her down on her feet, said goodbye and left. She was then excited that someone like Kakashi was able to help her in her life. This also led to her developing romantic feelings for him.

At some point during Hanzō's childhood, he found a black salamander with deadly venom residing in his village. When it died, its venom sac was embedded into his body in the hopes of creating a venomous ninja who himself was immune to toxins. This required him to wear a mask constantly, in order to protect others from his venom-laced breath. At some point after this, Hanzō became well known and renowned throughout the shinobi world, so much that enemies have been known to flee at the very sight of him.

Hanabi Hyūga

Hanabi is the younger daughter of the Hyūga clan's head, Hiashi Hyūga. In the anime, while always looking up to her older sister Hinata and wanting to spend more time with her, Hinata's duties as the future heiress of their clan made it hard for the two sisters to have any quality time together. Watching Hinata and seeing her as strong yet so kind, Hanabi aspired to be more like Hinata. Later, Hanabi watched her sister's training, only to witness Neji trying to harm her and he was later stopped by Hiashi, who then activated his curse seal. She was soon approached by her grandfather, who explained that the Hyūga clan must go to extremes sometimes to protect their secrets and everyone has a set path in life that they must endure. Hanabi also spied on Hinata as she would often leave home to watch Naruto Uzumaki from afar, making her wonder why Hinata was so fixated on the social outcast.

Harine was seen with the other children at the Konoha orphanage. He was present when Nonō Yakushi was thinking of a name for Kabuto.

Haori

During Kaguya's reign, Haori appeared to Hagoromo and Hamura Ōtsutsuki to request their assistance with a dispute in the village. In the village, the local farmers were fighting over a shortage of water, which Hagoromo offered to solve. Haori told him to be careful. Later, Hagoromo spotted Haori whilst she was on her way to the God Tree as part of a ritual established by Kaguya. Hagoromo attempted to make her stay, but she refused, noting that it was her obligation to serve the God Tree and gave him her necklace before saying her goodbyes and departing. Later on, after ascending the God Tree against his mother's wishes, Hamura found her, using his Byakugan, along with other residents of the Land of Ancestors wrapped in the roots of the tree itself. Their bodies were sacrificed to the God Tree through its sacred ritual.

Harusame

Harusame was a powerful shinobi of Kirigakure, who at some point became the master of the jinchūriki of the Six-Tails, Utakata. At one point on a mission for Harusame, Utakata had returned with a scroll, saying a shinobi should carry out and complete his mission swiftly. Frustrated at his student, Harusame angrily said that Utakata's job was to track and locate the scroll; not return it. He would go on to say Utakata's life was precious, mentioning that a ninja should not run away from conflict nor should he involve himself in a battle that was unnecessary. None-the-less, he was grateful for his student to be safe and alive.

Hashirama was born during the Warring States Period, the eldest of Butsuma Senju's four sons. Hashirama and his brothers grew up on the battlefield waging constant war with the Senju's rivals: the Uchiha. During his infrequent downtime, Hashirama met a boy his own age named Madara. The two quickly developed a friendly rivalry, be it skipping stones or urinating in rivers, with Hashirama typically winning their contests. Hashirama did not approve of this practice of sending children to fight and die, believing it would only increase the bitterness between the Senju and Uchiha, thus causing more deaths.

Haruna

She had been kept as a hostage for much of her childhood, isolated and under constant surveillance. Her father had done this in order to secure the welfare of the Land of Vegetables, but later came to regret sacrificing Haruna for this purpose. As a result of her isolation and sense of betrayal, Haruna came to see sacrifice as inevitable, and believed that even if many of her subjects were sacrificed, her safety was all that mattered for her country's survival.

Hayama Shirakumo

He was assigned to patrol the northern borders along with Tekuno Kanden, Naruto Uzumaki, and Kosuke Maruboshi after the Konoha Crush. Not long after they were ambushed by a battalion of ninja from Iwagakure. Hayama stayed behind to allow the other members of the squad time to escape and report to the village. Along with Tekuno, he wiped out the majority of the ninja.

About two years younger than Fugaku, Hazuki left the clan when she married her husband - a non-Uchiha - and with him had a daughter, Izumi. After her husband died defending their daughter during the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's Attack, she returned to the Uchiha's compound with Izumi. She was the second to die during the Uchiha Clan Downfall, killed by Itachi Uchiha shortly after Izumi.

Head Ninja of Kumogakure

As the head ninja of Kumogakure at the time, he was sent with an envoy to sign a peace treaty with Konohagakure. However, the treaty was nothing more than a means to gain free entry into the village with the covert purpose of abducting a member of the Hyūga clan in order to obtain the Byakugan. During the middle of the night, he snuck onto the Hyūga clan's estate and abducted young Hinata while she slept. However, Hinata's father, Hiashi, intercepted him during his escape, and quickly killed him. Despite the sinister nature of the visit, Kumogakure demanded Hiashi's head as compensation as per the agreement in the treaty they had signed, or risk starting another war. Left with not much choice, Konoha seemingly handed over Hiashi's corpse, but it was, in fact, that of his twin brother Hizashi, upon whose death, the Byakugan was sealed away.

As a genin, he was placed in a team with Ibiki Morino and Tokara. During the Chūnin Exams, Hayate and his team confronted Team Orochimaru.

Heiji was a subordinate in Hanzō's regime and the right hand of Kandachi who in turn was the right hand of Hanzō. At some point, he was killed within the walls of Amegakure. Some time later, he was accidentally reincarnated by Kabuto Yakushi who was looking for Hanzō instead.

Heki was once Ao's partner and experienced many battles alongside him. At some point, he chose to support the village from the foundation by becoming a close associate of Genji, Kirigakure's elder.

Hibari is an old friend of Neon's mother, leading Neon and Osuka to being friends. When Hibari became busier with work, she asked Neon to keep Osuka company.

Hebiichigo

Hebiichigo was an orphan with no memories of her family. She grew up on a trash heap outside of Kirigakure. She would scrounge the area for anything of remote value. During this time, she learned to sew, finding a real pleasure in it even when others found it a waste of time and resources. One day, a missing-nin chanced on the area and attacked her. Desperate to live, she used a pole to kill them. Being praised for her efforts by a Kiri-nin, Hebiichigo made the decision to become a shinobi herself.

Hibachi

Hibachi picked on Naruto Uzumaki when he failed to perform the Clone Technique but was stopped by Iruka, saying not to bother with a kid like him. Later, he and his friends refused to let Naruto go with them to perform a test of courage in the Konoha Cemetery. As a payback, Naruto scared him, wearing a mask and cloak pretending to be a fox demon. Humiliated, Hibachi decided to get revenge on Naruto and tells him that he could join their group if he went to the hills where his father had just returned from a mission, find a corpse, and bring one of its belongings as a test of courage. Overjoyed with the possibility of finally making friends, Naruto agreed. However, the whole bet was a trick, as Hibachi's father had told him that there might still enemy ninja in the hills. When Iruka asked if anyone had seen Naruto, Hibachi lied and claimed that he didn't. Fortunately, Shikamaru Nara heard the whole thing and informed Iruka, claiming that Hibachi's tricks were annoying.

After her father's murder and the investigation going nowhere over lack of evidence, Hibiki and Kodama became dedicated to avenging their father by finding the killer, who was a proficient Wind Release user and was left with a cross shaped scar after the encounter with their father. They would go from village to village attacking ex-shinobi who were Wind Release users, though they never killed any of their victims, leaving only cross shaped tears on their clothing to identify them. Hibiki and her brother would then spend a year in Konoha trying to find ex-shinobi who were Wind Release users. At some point, she found Mikazuki in pain in front of her house and took it to the vet. She began calling him "Niboshi," after the fish she began feeding him.

Hiashi was born only seconds before his twin brother Hizashi, making Hiashi the head of the Hyūga clan and Hizashi a member of the branch house, whose only purpose in life would be to protect members of the main house. Years later, when Neji was born, Hizashi became bitter that his son would never be able to reach his full potential like a member of the main house, causing him to be openly resentful of Hiashi and his daughter. Hiashi was also responsible for branding the family's curse seal on Neji's forehead, further straining the relationship between the two brothers. One day during Hinata's training, overwhelmed with resentment and anger, Hizashi gave Hinata a murderous glare, Hiashi sensed the killing intent and activated the curse seal on his younger brother, causing him intense pain. He told Hizashi to leave as he would no longer tolerate incidents like this, telling him to never forget his duties.

He is a popular actor in the movie "Princess Gale", where he plays the character Shishimaru. In the movie, Hidero, Kin, and Michy summoned their rainbow chakra to defeat the Armoured Warriors and their boss.

After the Fourth Shinobi World War ended, Hidari and Ashimaru lost their jobs, leading to them taking missions directly. Fifteen years later, the pair was hired by Iori, with the objective to retrieve the deed to the Green Banks bridge. Providing Iori with poison, he used it to kill the village head of Green Banks. For three months, the two assaulted the village in an attempt to force the new village head Kiri into handing over the deed.

She was originally born as "Hikari Uchiha" by her parents, who wished her to live her life in the sunshine as much as possible, hence her name. However, her parents were killed at some point during the vicious Warring States Period, leaving her orphaned. Once her fellow Uchiha clan members discovered Nanashi's powerful abilities, they decided to use her as a weapon for battle, telling her only purpose was to serve them in battle, and gave her the name "Nanashi" to signify her lack of identity as a human being. For several years, Nanashi was kept locked away by her own clansmen, being treated as a weapon, often being referred only as "it" by others. Ultimately, however, during a battle against the Senju clan, Nanashi's power forced them to retreat, only for them to return with assistance from the Sarutobi clan, who managed to defeat the Uchiha and seal Nanashi away underground, preventing her from being used again for battle.

Hidan

During his childhood, after hearing rumours about the Valley of Hell, Hidan went and found it out of curiosity. There, he was disgusted by the smell of sulphur, and discovered corpses all over the area. After returning and telling others of the corpses, they weren't surprised that the Chinoike Clan couldn't survive living in the valley, prompting Hidan to correct their assumptions and informing them that the bodies weren't skeletons but actual bodies, with their blood not dry. His story led to people suspecting Hidan of murdering them, as well as Yugakure ninja being dispatched to the area to investigate, during which they determined the slaughter to be a clan act.

Himawari is the second and youngest child of Naruto and Hinata Uzumaki, born six years after the Fourth Shinobi World War and two years after her brother, Boruto. On the day that Naruto was to be inaugurated as the Seventh Hokage, Himawari wanted to bring her panda toy to the ceremony, but Boruto, fearing that he would end up carrying it, tried to take it away from her. When the toy's head was ripped off in the ensuing tug-of-war, Himawari awoke her Byakugan and attacked Boruto in her anger, despite his vehement apologies. Naruto, sensing her killing intent, arrived and shielded Boruto, though he was knocked out in the process. Fearful of what an attack that could defeat his father would do to him, Boruto tried to run from Himawari, but she quickly located her brother hiding in a closet. From then on, he vowed to never anger her again.

While on their tail, the Nokizaru unleashed a blinding light which dispersed microscopic Exploding Insects which the Kumogakure shinobi inhaled. After killing Nigai with this method, A escaped with his ill subordinate.

Her teammates were Yōji Aburame, a fellow graduate, and Itachi Uchiha, who graduated the year before her. Although he was much younger than her, Himuka called Itachi "master" because of how skilled he was. Itachi left the team only a few months after she joined, but Himuka continued to admire him throughout his career. Years later, she was saddened by Itachi's involvement in the Uchiha Clan Downfall.

While she was a student at the Academy, Hinoko invented her own signature technique: the Chakra Needle. Because of this accomplishment, she was scouted by the Anbu and upon graduating from the Academy, was immediately recruited as a member.

When she was still a child, Hinata was almost kidnapped by the-then Head Ninja of Kumogakure, who was visiting Konoha under the guise of signing a peace treaty between their two villages. Hiashi killed him and saved Hinata, setting in motion the events that would become known as the "Hyūga Affair".

Three years later, Hinoto and Hinoe were guarding the entrance to the Root chambers when the two Anbu members Yūgao Uzuki and Kakashi Hatake appeared with the order to bring Danzō Shimura to Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage. After Yūgao left with the message that Danzō was absent, Kakashi revealed his face and subdued Hinoe with his Sharingan. Hinoto tried to attack him but was quickly overpowered. Kakashi then used a genjutsu to extract the information about Kinoe's whereabouts from her.

According to Condor, Hippo Boss is trapped in a four-way lovers spat with King, Chūji and Don over the affections of Armadiko. Whenever the four are together, they immediately start fighting believing themselves to be the most suitable partner for Armadiko.

Hiruga and his brothers were orphans who found a home in the Land of Haze's orphanage. Despite it being a smaller and impoverished country, they enjoyed having decent meals. They would also often spend their time playing under a large peach tree.

A contemporary and former friend of the Sannin, Hiruko wished to become a strong shinobi, yet was born with no natural special abilities. To overcome this disadvantage, he developed the Chimera Technique, a kinjutsu which would allow him to obtain the kekkei genkai of other ninja by fusing their bodies with his own. Some time after the Third Shinobi World War, Hiruko's research and findings on the technique were discovered. He claimed the Third Hokage ordered the Sannin to assassinate him, forcing him to leave the village as a missing-nin.

Hiruzen was born the son of Sasuke Sarutobi. The Sarutobi clan was one of the first clans to settle in the newly-created Konohagakure, where Hiruzen struck up a friendship with the Shimura clan's Danzō Shimura. Hiruzen was part of the first generation of ninja produced by Konoha as he, Homura Mitokado, and Koharu Utatane were placed under the tutelage of Tobirama Senju. Hiruzen early on displayed prodigious talent in the ninja arts, earning him additional training from Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage. At the same time, Danzō became jealous of Hiruzen's skills and growing recognition, starting a one-sided rivalry in an effort to surpass him. At one point Hashirama and Tobirama talked to Hiruzen of the importance of believing in and protecting those in the village, telling him he would one day be Hokage.

Hizashi was born mere seconds after his twin brother, Hiashi. For this reason only however, Hiashi was made the successor to the Hyūga clan, whereas Hizashi was made a member of a branch house. At some point in Hizashi's life, he was branded with the clan's curse seal that would ensure his lifelong service to the main branch and that would seal his Byakugan when he died. Hizashi was unhappy with this fate but felt that there was nothing he could do and put up with it.

During his time as a sailor, he, along with his captain and other ship members were killed by the Giant Corpse Crab.

Hohozuki was born in the same village as Ameyuki. Unlike all of the other villagers, Hohozuki did not hate Ameyuki and in fact was his only friend. One day slavers attacked their village and kidnapped the women and children - Hohozuki included. Ameyuki rescued them, using his Mud Release to kill the slavers. Rather than thank Ameyuki for his help, the villagers now feared Ameyuki and tried to kill him. When Hohozuki found out about this, he convinced Ameyuki to go to Shangri-la with him so that they could live without being bothered. Before they could leave, the villagers found out what they had planned and killed Hohozuki.

While researchers worked on the Ultimate Summoning Beast, Honoka was assigned to restrain the beast using her sealing techniques. However, at some point in time the beast got too powerful for her technique to restrain and it got loose. The researchers called for her to do something as the beast began to kill them. Eventually, she was the only one left, and when her sealing technique failed to restrain the beast, she called out for help, though there was no one to hear her while she was killed.

Both he and his wife had completed the star training. They both stole the star after seeing the side effects of the training, but were later caught by the Third Hoshikage and his Anbu. The Hoshikage acknowledged their concerns in regards to the star training and had long considered discontinuing it. However, the more militaristic shinobi of the village were likely to reinstate the star training if ever given the chance. The Hoshikage promised to halt the training, but in exchange, asked that Hotarubi and Natsuhi watch the village from afar, should the more aggressive members of the village ever attempt to bring back the star training. Hotarubi later died by the star training side effects.

In the anime, shortly after the foundation of the village, he was shown to be part of a class alongside Koharu Utatane and Torifu Akimichi.

Hotaru met Utakata after he saved her from a group of ninja who were actually after him. After the battle, Utakata was wounded and collapsed after it and Hotaru ran to her fort to get help to save him. After Utakata was healed, Hotaru asked him to become her teacher, much to his dismay. He reluctantly began to teach her by standing on water first, believing that she wouldn't master it. However, the next morning, she showed him that she was able to stand on top of the water by training all night. Next, Utakata taught her Water Release: Wild Water Wave, once again believing that she would not be able to master it without water-nature chakra only to discover she possessed water-nature chakra.

On the verge of the Second Shinobi World War, he encountered Jiraiya during his journey to find his disciple. After dying years later, his corpse was used by Nagato to channel the power of the Human Path in his Six Paths of Pain.

Ibushi and the other members were unaware of the true secret of the Master Puppet and tried to resurrect it anyway to reform his clan. However, the Spirit Orbs he collected started to possess him and the Master Puppet used him as his tool to find the remaining Spirit Orbs and bring back himself.

Idate took the Chūnin Exams, up until the "tenth question". Like any exam ran by his older brother Ibiki, those who chose to abandon the exam before the question would have their team disqualified, but can retake it in six months. Idate chose to stay along with his squad. He was part of the remaining participants who would ultimately fail the exam, being accused of sacrificing a squad's future for their own. This failure resulted in the participants stuck as genin for life, never allowed to retake the exam, which left him depressed. When he protested, Ibiki suggested that he was not cut out for being a ninja. Aoi Rokushō told Idate that he could become a chūnin by stealing a secret scroll and the Sword of the Thunder God. After Idate brought the items to Aoi, he asked about becoming a chūnin. Aoi informed Idate that he would be made a chūnin and Aoi made a jōnin in Amegakure, using the sword and scroll as gifts. Therefore, Idate was classified as a fugitive by his home village, and had to go on the run in order to avoid being imprisoned for his theft.

Ikada was born in the northern seas of the Land of Water, the youngest son of Funato clan head, Araumi. During a battle against Kirigakure, his mother Minamo was struck down and frozen in ice while protecting him. He was a newborn at the time, and as such has no memories of her. From a young age, he was often mocked by his older brothers for not having any aptitude for battle or wielding the Funato power. Eventually, he was brought before the shores for a special ceremony like all Funato blood to determine his inherited power. Against his wishes, he was hurled into the ocean as raging storm took place. His Funato abilities manifested, causing a massive wave that saved him from drowning.

Alongside Yashiro and Tekka Uchiha, Inabi questioned Itachi Uchiha about his whereabouts during the time when Shisui Uchiha supposedly committed suicide. He told Itachi that they had all intention of duly investigating the matter and when they presented Shisui's alleged suicide note, he stated that for someone who wielded the Sharingan it would be no problem to forge such a note. They then left the note with Itachi telling him to ask the Anbu to investigate the matter as well. As the men left, they passed snide, suggestive comments about Itachi's involvement in the matter which Itachi took offence to and attacked them. Fed up with Itachi, the men asked Fugaku who had just arrived, to issue the order to arrest Itachi. However after Itachi apologised and Fugaku offered the excuse that Itachi was worn out from his other duties the men left.

When Kohari was injured while protecting him during the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's Attack, he offered to look after her. Ikkaku said he would look after her since it was the parent's job to protect their child, not the other way around. He instructed Iruka to flee. Iruka did not listen, forcing other Konoha ninja to drag him away from the battle. His parents were killed by the Nine-Tails. Their names had been added to Konoha's Memorial Stone when they died.

Inagi

Inagi and his comrades were on a mission to deliver a scroll of secret data while being guarded by Team Minato. While crossing the forest, they were attacked by their opponents, causing Team Minato to split up, leaving Rin Nohara and Kakashi Hatake with the Yugakure shinobi. They take them to the bridge, but Shinbu was injured and fell off the cliff. Switching sides, Inagi and Babu revealed that they were traitors and mortally wounded Iwato by attacking him from behind. They then attacked Kakashi, who defended himself with an earthen wall, and then counterattacked, injuring Babu with his blade. Inagi picked up an injured comrade and they leave.

Inari is the son of Tsunami, and is also Tazuna's grandson. His biological father died before he got to know him. One time, Inari's dog, Pochi, was stolen by the bully Akane. As he lost interest in Pochi, Akane threw him into the sea. When Inari hesitated to go in and save him, Akane pushed him in as well. Luckily, Kaiza saved Inari from drowning, after Pochi learned how to swim and abandoned Inari when he couldn't save Pochi. Kaiza took a fatherly role in Inari's life and even became close to Tsunami. When Gatō put Kaiza to death, Inari changed. He became a sad and angry boy, with little hope or optimism. He blamed Kaiza for what had happened, believing that he, in dying, had broken his promise to protect the land.

In the anime, despite the loss of his mother following problems with his younger brother Asura's birth, Indra's childhood was still peaceful and joyous, spending his time either blissfully alongside his father and brother Asura, or regularly reading his father's books and journals. Under their father's tutelage, the two brothers studied Ninshū in the hopes of one of them becoming the great sage's successor. As Indra continued to amaze all with his natural capacities and advanced growth rate, he began showing his ingenious side, realising how chakra could be altered to perform more versatile feats. Soon afterwards, the other Ninshū followers learned from Indra's example and began using this new innovation to improve the quality of life for both themselves and the village. While initially proud of his discovery, Indra grew concerned when he noticed that everyone began focusing more on physical growth rather than spiritual as what was meant for Ninshū. Periodically, Black Zetsu would secretly approach Indra alone, goading him with praises and curiosity towards Indra's true potential, even going so far as to say he could rival if not surpass the Sage of Six Paths himself. After awakening his Sharingan, Indra began to take to heart the mysterious figure's praises, focusing solely on his training and growing colder and more distant to others, including his brother. Eventually, Hagoromo decided to choose his successor based on the performance of his sons by tasking them each with aiding the revival of a foreign land.

Inojin Yamanaka

Inojin is the only child of Ino and Sai Yamanaka. As his parents continued to stay close to their childhood friends over the years, Inojin ultimately came to know the various parents' respective kids well. From a young age, Inojin would often have sleepovers with Chōchō and Shikadai, even having matching pyjamas. Their parents would also continue Asuma Sarutobi's tradition of taking the kids to Yakiniku Q to celebrate accomplishments. On the day of the Seventh Hokage's inauguration, he watched the ceremony with his parents and Shikadai.

When he became a genin, he was partnered with Shikaku and Chōza. In the anime, nearing the end of the Third Shinobi World War, his team was assigned to deliver a request for a peace treaty between the Konoha and Iwagakure. Anticipating the Iwa shinobi to turn hostile, the meeting was strategically held at the borderline of the Land of Wind, knowing that the Fourth Kazekage would oversee the meeting should a battle breakout on his own land.

Ino Yamanaka

Ino is an only child and was a popular student during her time in the Academy. There, she met Sakura Haruno, who was teased by other kids for her large forehead. Ino defended Sakura from the bullies and encouraged her to embrace her forehead rather than hide it, becoming good friends with her. Over the following years, Ino's guidance and friendship helped Sakura become more confident and develop into her own person. However, when Sakura found out that they had a crush on the same boy, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura approached Ino, telling her of her liking towards Sasuke. This caused them to end their friendship, starting their dislike towards each other in the beginning of the series.

Inori had developed an illness to which she could not find or even afford treatment for. At some point, Boro manipulated her into joining his cult, with the promise of the Ōtsutsuki Clan saving her from her misfortune by casting the Infinite Tsukuyomi.

Isari Funato

After his father returned from another raid, Araumi also brought with him a young boy named Tenma who Asaumi decided to adopt. Isari happily welcomed him to the family. From a young age, they would train arduously together under their father's watch. He and Tenma would often tease their younger brother, Ikada, for not having any aptitude for battle or wielding the Funato power. Later, he watched Ikada's rite of passage ceremony to determine his inherited power. As Ikada was hurled into the ocean as raging storm took place, his Funato abilities manifested, causing a massive wave that save him from drowning, leaving Isari and his other siblings speechless. At some point, Isari was given the marlin-bone harpoon by his father.

Iruka's parents were killed in the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's Attack twelve years before the beginning of the series. Initially, a young Iruka was present on the battlefield, and wanted to stay in order to protect his mother. His father declared that it was the parents' duty to keep their child safe from harm. He was forcibly removed from the battlefield by an unknown shinobi while he called out for his parent to no avail.

Isaribi was part of a test that was meant to give shinobi the ability to breathe and operate underwater. Isaribi was one of the first test subjects, and was not the final version. She was sent back to the Land of the Sea to spy on the ships leaving port. Due to her bandages, which were used to cover the permanently scaled parts of her body, the villagers attacked her and vandalised her property. They feared and hated her, as she was the only person to return from being "spirited away".

Ishidate

Ishidate was exiled from his homeland and was going through hardships until he was hired by the Land of the Moon minister Shabadaba to kill Michiru Tsuki and his son, Hikaru Tsuki, as part of Shabadaba's plot to overthrow the current king, Kakeru Tsuki. He used a unique gauntlet to assassinate Kakeru, leaving the elderly king with fatal wounds that eventually led to his demise.

Ise

During the Second Shinobi World War, Ise and his wife Fusō were providing humanitarian aid. One night during the war, Ise and his family were hiding in their battle-damaged house when Konoha ninja broke in looking for food. Ise and his family tried to sneak away but when they were detected. Ise fought the ninja to give Nagato a chance to escape, but the Konoha ninja, assuming the couple were enemy ninja, attacked and quickly killed first Fusō and then the devastated Ise.

Ishikawa

At some point during his tenure, Ishikawa tasked his grandson Ōnoki with cleaning the Stone Monument of their village, under his direct supervision. During the exercise, he explained that the stone was a symbol of the tough, unmovable will of the shinobi of Iwagakure — something that he regarded as "essential". Although describing Ōnoki as possessing such a will, he warned how forsaking it would result in a life filled only with excuses and hatred.

Isono

Isono appears as one of the Chōji's opponents during the eating contest in the Land of This. Isono manages to pass the first two rounds of the contest. Later, he goes to the final round, in a duel with Chōji and Tamao. The duel consisted in eating barbecue. Seeing the speed of his rivals, Isono used his special technique, Lethal Juggler, allowing him to cook food with one hand and eat the food with the other. As Chōji had to be the second in the contest, Shikamaru avoided his victory, making Isono the winner and a house was given to him as a prize.

Itachi's Crow

Shisui wanted to use his Mangekyō Sharingan's Kotoamatsukami to stop the Uchiha clan from carrying out their planned coup d'état against Konohagakure. Before he could do so, his right Mangekyō was taken by Danzō Shimura. Fearful that Danzō would also take his left eye and use it for ill purposes, Shisui removed his remaining eye and entrusted it to his best friend, Itachi Uchiha, asking that Itachi use it to protect Konoha. The eye was implanted within a crow for safe-keeping.

Isobu and the tailed beasts first came into being in the waning days of Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, who used his Creation of All Things Technique to divide the Ten-Tails' chakra into nine separate bodies and giving each a name. Some time after being created, the Sage explained to the young tailed beasts that a link existed between them despite their separation. He also foretold of a day when they would be brought together again - though not as they were - and that at that time someone would emerge to show them what true power is. In the anime, before his death, Hagoromo sent Isobu to live in a temple built for the purpose of protecting it in a region surrounding a large misty lake that would later become part of the Land of Water.

Itachi Uchiha

Itachi was the first child born to Mikoto and Fugaku Uchiha. His early childhood was marked with violence: when he was four years old, the Third Shinobi World War waged and he witnessed first-hand many of the war's casualties. The death and destruction he experienced at such a young age traumatised Itachi and made him a pacifist, leading to him training non-stop to achieve his dream of becoming a ninja among ninja in order to erase fighting from the world. At age 5, after becoming a big brother to Sasuke, Itachi was approached by Shisui, who offered to train together. Soon, the two became best friends, forming a brother-like bond as they continued to teach the other new tricks. During the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's Attack, he was home alone looking after Sasuke, followed by Itachi rescuing Mikoto from falling debris, and in the anime seeking shelter with Izumi. The Nine-Tails' attack had soured relations between Konoha's leadership and the Uchiha, the former believing the latter to be responsible. The Uchiha were relocated to the edge of the village, isolating them from the rest of the village and making it easier to monitor them.

Isshiki Ōtsutsuki

Long ago, Isshiki came to Earth alongside Kaguya with the objective to plant a Tree to harvest its Chakra Fruit. While Kaguya, being lower-ranked, was planned to be sacrificed to create the Chakra Fruit, she instead turned on Isshiki, leaving him on the verge of death after destroying Isshiki's lower half. Encountering Jigen and not having the strength to implant a Kāma on him, Isshiki devised a desperate plan and shrunk himself to enter the monk's ear in order to survive his injury by absorbing Jigen's nutrients. Through time, Isshiki came to control Jigen's entire body and embed a Kāma onto his host.

As an Outer of the secret organisation, Kara, the doctor worked under Victor in an unauthorised project to recreate the God Tree from a splinter recovered during the Fourth Shinobi World War. Wanting to elevate his own social status, the doctor proceeded with his own personal agenda by acquiring genetic material from the White Zetsu sometime after the war, in order to attain additional data for Kara's cause. One day, he approached Ōnoki, whose hopes to create artificial soldiers to replace the shinobi of Iwagakure backfired, to offer his services with the material he obtained. With it, they created the Fabrications, artificial humans to help lead the Akuta, mindless soldiers created from clay. To lead the Fabrications themselves, the doctor and Ōnoki created a Fabrication clone of the Tsuchikage himself, Kū.

Upon hearing the news of his brother Kawarama's death, a tearful Itama assembled alongside his father, and his remaining siblings Tobirama and Hashirama as the fallen were buried. After his father scolded him for crying — as shinobi were not to show emotions — Itama looked on horrified by the altercation between his father and his eldest brother. Later, while speaking to his brothers about seeking peace for the world, Itama voiced concern about what would happen to the retribution that should be sought for the death of their relatives. Tobirama admonished him for this way of thinking stating that the only way to achieve peace would be to repress feelings such as those.

Iwana Akame

In the past, Iwana participated in a foreign espionage mission, where he was attacked and lost his left eye. In the anime, he and Bekkō were seen alongside Daikoku Funeno at the Academy, watching Itachi Uchiha get attacked by bullies.

Iwabee Yuino

Iwabee had a grandfather who was killed by Yagura Karatachi. On the day of the Seventh Hokage's inauguration, Iwabee watched the event beside other villagers. Dreaming of becoming a mighty and famous ninja, Iwabee soon enrolled in the Academy. While consistently scoring top marks in all his various ninja classes, his aversion/dislike of book studies not related to ninjutsu, but still required curriculum lead him to get equally consistent poor written grades. This made him fail the graduation exams twice and ultimately forgotten by his former friends who went on to become full-fledged ninja. Blaming the new shinobi era's pursuit of both studies and physical skills for him being held back, Iwabee became rebellious. He would regularly skip classes completely and become harsh if not confrontational with the younger students.

During his childhood, Iwana was close friends with Yamame. When Kagura Karatachi had moved to their village, Iwana had noticed he isolated himself from the other children, so he and Yamame approached the boy and befriended him.

Iwato and his comrades were on a mission to deliver a scroll of classified data while being guarded by Team Minato. While crossing the forest, they were attacked by their opponents, causing Team Minato to split up, leaving Rin Nohara and Kakashi Hatake with Yugakure shinobi. They take them to the bridge, but Shinbu was injured and fell off the cliff. Switching sides, Inagi and Babu revealed that they were traitors and mortally wounded Iwato by attacking him from behind. After a brief fight with Kakashi, during which Babu was injured, the traitors escaped. Iwato revealed that he knew about the traitors among their group, but he didn't know who they were. Therefore, they had two scrolls to deceive the traitor. The second scroll was held by Shinbu, followed by Babu, Inagi and the rest of their allies. Iwato died, and Obito Uchiha began the pursuit of the traitors, joined by his team-mates.

Izumi was the daughter of Hazuki Uchiha. Unlike her mother, Izumi's father was not an Uchiha, and for that reason their family lived separately from the Uchiha clan for the first few years of Izumi's life. During the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's Attack, her father died while protecting her. From the grief brought on by his death, as well as feelings of guilt that he would not have died had Izumi been stronger, Izumi eventually awakened her Sharingan. She and her mother afterwards rejoined the Uchiha clan.

Before the era of ninja villages, Izuna was one of the five sons born to Tajima Uchiha. However, three of his brothers died at the hands of the Senju, leaving the second eldest Izuna and his oldest brother Madara. Alongside Madara, Izuna was considered one of the most gifted members of the Uchiha. Izuna often competed with his brother as training. As a child growing up during the war-torn era, Izuna once accompanied his father on a mission to kill Hashirama Senju, whom Madara — albeit unknowingly — had been meeting. Once there, Izuna and his father were confronted by Butsuma and Tobirama Senju, the latter of whom he acknowledged by name.

Most of his original weapons are shown to either be impossible to carry or serve no purpose at all. It is assumed he was relocated to the outskirts of the village due to the random explosions he creates, which he claims are "challenges" during his inventing.

Iō lived in Bamboo Village with his wife and daughter. Despite the village's remoteness, they were able to make a meagre living by selling goods made out of the native bamboo in the nearby towns. For a period of time, they even enjoyed the generous donations of the Lightning Group, who they accordingly celebrated as heroes. But the Lightning Group's deeds eventually brought them into conflict with Kirigakure, and the few who survived sought refuge in Bamboo Village. Iō refused to help them, fearing reprisal from Kiri.

Janmāru-Tataru

Tataru established the Astronomy Research Institute high in the mountains, just beyond the northern border of the Land of Redaku. One day he met the Sage of Six Paths, who was searching Redaku for a way to cure damage to his chakra pathway system caused by his time as a jinchūriki. Tataru took the Sage in and, despite having no medical training, offered to help him. On the night that the Sage would ultimately be cured, a shooting star passed overhead, which the Sage caught and cut in two using only his chakra. One of these halves immediately dissolved into dust, which Tataru dubbed "polar particles". The dust enveloped the Sage and healed his body.

Some years later, Jiga, along with his brothers, established a coup d'etat, which resulted in the death of the Land of Vegetables' daimyō. After their rise to power, the three brothers betrayed their allies, which included greedy and disloyal courtiers they had recruited, and slaughtered them all. The brothers themselves were distrusting of each other, and plotted to kill off the others in order to have more wealth and power for themselves.

Jibachi

The Kamizuru clan fell from grace due to conflict with the Aburame Clan of Konohagakure in the past. Like the Aburame clan, the Kamizuru focused on the utilisation of bugs in their techniques. They sought the legendary bikōchū in the hopes it would help in the revitalisation of their clan. Jibachi's grandfather, the First Tsuchikage, then hid away his forbidden secrets so they couldn't be used against the clan.

Jigumo

After the Fūma Clan finished a war with a neighbouring country, they wandered the Land of Rice Fields hoping to settle down. Near the end of their journey, Orochimaru and Kimimaro appeared before the Fūma and told them that if they joined Otogakure that Orochimaru would help in restoring their power. Jigumo, along with Kamikiri, Kotohime, and Kagerō, were enchanted by this idea and, under Arashi, decided to go with Orochimaru, hoping they could regain their power.

Jiji was originally a ninja of Sunagakure. A few years prior to the events of Sasuke Retsuden, the Prime Minister of the Land of Redaku visited the village while he was touring the region. While there, he hired Jiji to come to Redaku and train an army of ninja, as Redaku was historically a peaceful country with no combat experience. Jiji travelled to Redaku's capital city and was given a room in the royal palace; one of the palace maids, Margo, was assigned to attend to him. Over time, Jiji and Margo fell in love, with Jiji deciding to abandon the life of a ninja in order to be with her.

Around the time that Kaguya Ōtsutsuki and Isshiki Ōtsutsuki arrived on Earth, Jigen was a novice monk. After Kaguya left him for dead, Isshiki assaulted Jigen, during which he shrunk himself and entered the monk's ear in order to survive. Through having his nutrients absorbed from within his body, Isshiki began gaining control over Jigen's body and eventually gained full control over it. Afterwards, Isshiki embedded his Kāma in Jigen, but because Jigen's body wasn't powerful enough to sustain his chakra, Isshiki opted not to revive himself in Jigen, instead waiting until a more suitable vessel could be found.

Jingo Kumano

Jingo abandoned his village over having no talent as a shinobi, becoming a missing-nin. Eventually, the village pardoned him, but he was still jobless and without money. While wandering for a new purpose, he found his way to Konohagakure. In it, the starving Jingo passed Ramen Ichiraku, where Teuchi and Ayame took sympathy on the man and treated him to a meal. So happy at both the taste of ramen and inspired by the joy such food could bring, he decided to move to Konoha to start a new life as a ramen chef.

Jinin Akebino

At some point, Jinin joined the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, where he came in possession of the Kabutowari. Some time after the Third Shinobi World War, he alongside the other swordsmen encountered a Konoha team. After managing to corner the shinobi, the three were saved by Might Duy, who sacrificed himself in order for them to escape. In the anime, Jinin was killed by Duy's effort.

Jiryū Sendō

Jiryū formed the Sendō clan after the Howling Wolf Village declared its neutrality from all conflicts. He gathered together many of the village's former shinobi - left unemployed by the neutrality - and created a criminal gang that primarily dealt in saigenzai, a popular hallucinogen. Because of their saigenzai's poor quality, Jiryū wanted to learn how to make the special Kotarō sold by the Kodon clan. He and his clan would periodically harass Reishi and Kina Kodon to try and force them to turn over the secret to Kotarō. Itachi Uchiha, while visiting Reishi and Kina, would fend them off.

Jirōbō

In the anime, the Sound Four were originally prisoners of Orochimaru, forced to fight other prisoners to the death in battle royales. By surviving their respective matches, they proved themselves to be the strongest of Orochimaru's prisoners and as such were made his bodyguards. The Sound Four were at some point forced to accept Kimimaro as their leader, who easily defeated them all in battle and, because of his Shikotsumyaku abilities, was slated to be Orochimaru's next host body. Under Kimimaro their group was known as the Sound Five (音隠れの忍五人衆, Otogakure no Shinobi Gonin Shū, literally meaning: Hidden Sound Shinobi Five People).

Jiraiya

After he graduated from Konoha's Ninja Academy, Jiraiya was teamed with Orochimaru and Tsunade under the leadership of Hiruzen Sarutobi, who he developed his ninja skills during his genin years. Hiruzen gave them a bell test for the team's first exercise, during which Jiraiya repeatedly fell for Hiruzen's tricks, and for failing to acquire a bell, he was tied to a stump as punishment. Hiruzen encouraged Jiraiya to be more like Orochimaru, but Jiraiya countered that his Transparent Escape Technique was a fair testament to his skills, as he could spy on bathing women without getting caught: Hiruzen offered to accompany him to see if this was true. Jiraiya had a certain interest in Tsunade from their first meeting, and when her breasts developed, she became a frequent target of his peepings. She nearly killed him when she caught him on one occasion, forcing him to be more discreet about his interests.

Put in a team with his brothers led by Kakashi, Jirō failed in his new teacher's bell test and then he was restrained for the punishment. His brothers are assured by him to eat the lunches their teacher left out. Having exactly followed his orders, Kakashi fails Jirō and his brothers. Sometime later, Jirō and his brothers thank Kakashi for sending them back to the Academy, as they realise what he was trying to teach them, much to his surprise.

In the anime, according to Kakashi Hatake, Jinpachi committed many acts of cruelty in his lifetime, killing his older brother being one of them.

On a winter day, Jirōchō was confronted by Idate Morino and the young latter attacked him. However, he defended himself only with his umbrella. Upon meeting Idate, Jirōchō realised the young boy was just a starving thief, who tried to steal money from the latter. The boy tried to attack Jirōchō again, only to be restrained by him. As he released Idate, Jirōchō gave Idate a pocket knife and gave him a lesson. Noticing that Idate didn't have anywhere to go, Jirōchō took the young boy under his wing, letting him join the Wasabi family.

Junsai

Ten years prior to the formation of the Allied Shinobi Forces, Junsai was part of Ganryū's team that was tasked with retrieving a scroll along with a team from Iwagakure taken by Kumogakure shinobi. After retrieving the document, Iwagakure betrayed Ganryū's team and killed Junsai and Suiren. This incident which came to be known as the Tragedy of Yosuga Pass marked the beginning of hostilities between Kirigakure and Iwagakure.

Jūzō Biwa

When Jūzō joined the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, he became the wielder of the Kubikiribōchō, which he used many times to dye the battlefields red with the blood of his enemies. This level of brutality made him famous in several parts of the shinobi world. At some point after the Third Shinobi World War, Jūzō and his team-mates cornered a Konoha team consisting of Might Guy, Genma Shiranui and Ebisu. Jūzō was surprised that the young ninja knew of his team and acknowledged their growing fame. Before the swordsmen could proceed any further, they were confronted by Might Duy, who activated the Eight Gates Released Formation, sacrificing his life in order to allow his son and his team-mates to escape.

Jūgo

An outcast, Jūgo's random rage from his clan's power made him a danger to anyone around him, as they stood little chance of survival should he lose his temper. At one point, he became so angry that he destroyed a village and killed all of its inhabitants. This has caused others to label him as the "Scales", where anything could tip the balance. Cursing his existence, he took to secluding himself in caves, hoping to bring no one any harm. This lasted until he met Kimimaro, who was himself the last remnant of the Kaguya clan. Following Kimimaro, Jūgo allowed himself to be one of Orochimaru's test subjects in the hopes that he could be cured of his fits of rage.<

Kabuto Yakushi

Kabuto was found as a child by Nonō Yakushi on the outskirts of a city recently destroyed in a battle; he had suffered a head injury, leaving him with no memory of his name or past. Nonō treated his wound and brought him to the Konoha Orphanage. Urushi, another orphan, placed a helmet on his head so he wouldn't be injured again, prompting Nonō to name him "Kabuto". Kabuto liked the name and left his bed that night so that he could thank her, unaware of the orphanage's strict schedule. When Nonō found him, she discovered that this was in part because he couldn't read a clock due to his poor eyesight. She gave him her glasses so that he could see, overwhelming Kabuto with thankfulness.

Kabuto's Sensei

Once a student of Orochimaru along with Anko Mitarashi and another unknown genin, his team entered Chūnin Exams together. During the second exam, they battled against Hayate Gekkō, Ibiki Morino and Tokara. He also made a brief appearance in Naruto: Shippūden episode 193, as part of the tactical division of protecting Konoha alongside Sabiru and other ninja.

In the anime, Kagami was amongst the first few hundred of students to attend and graduate the Academy. Having become friends with Danzō Shimura and Hiruzen Sarutobi, he saved the former many times with his dōjutsu.

As future heir to the throne, Kae had been required to act in a manner that befitted her status. Due to that, she did not get a chance to make friends, instead spending her time only with her younger stepbrother during her childhood. Kae was very close to her late mother. She would often attend parties hosted and prepared by the queen. As Kae voiced her admiration of her mother, she encouraged Kae to make sure she does things her own way, and looked forward to attending a party hosted by Kae.

Kageki had loaned money to Shikazo one time and after the birth of his child, he needed the money and asked Shikazo if he can be repaid but he refused. After a small scuffle, Shikazo fell and hit his head on a pickling stone that was hard enough to kill him. Since then, Kageki and his family went into hiding, while his twin brother, Katazu, took his identity and got the attention of his pursuers.

Kagen Uchiha

Kagen worked for the Konoha Military Police Force's logistical department, which meant he never had an opportunity to awaken the Sharingan. This, combined with the fact that Kagen was of unremarkable talent and had no close relatives, made him the perfect target for Root. Root killed Kagen and had the twins Gozu and Mezu — both surgically altered to look like him — split responsibilities of impersonating Kagen in order to spy on the Uchiha clan.

Kagari (cultist)

Years ago, Kagari's village suffered a plague which he and his sister Akari had survived. They were soon approached by Boro, who invited them to his cult with false promises. Some time later, Kagari was chosen to be a candidate as Isshiki Ōtsutsuki's vessel. He did not survive the Kāma transfer and Akari was left unaware of his fate for three years.

Kagura (game)

Some time prior to the series, Kagura was an Anbu member who had wished to become Tsunade's apprentice, and, hopefully, the Hokage. However, she went rogue and left the village when Tsunade refused to take Kagura as her student, although it was only because of Kagura's lack of compassion for her colleagues. In the time since then, Kagura grew to hate her former village and remained cold and uncaring for the well-being of other people.

Kagura Karatachi

Being the grandson of Yagura, people kept their distance from him. As his safety couldn't be guaranteed, he was relocated to a small village outside of Kirigakure. There, he initially spent his time practising his kenjutsu on a tree, or pulling pranks about the village, often being spanked as a punishment. Eventually, the children began warming up to him and let him play with them.

Kaguya Clan Patriarch

Because of Kimimaro's frightening abilities, even among the Kaguya Clan, he kept him locked away until one day, he released Kimimaro to help destroy Kirigakure. After reaching Kiri's outskirts, he ordered the entire clan to enter the village in order to destroy it, simply to show off their clan's fearsomeness. Although they were briefly able to gain the upper hand, they were eventually surrounded and outmatched. Knowing they would lose, the clan head told the remaining members to have fun and take as many of the enemy as possible with them, which eventually led to the death of every member, except Kimimaro.

Kahyō

Kahyō and her older brother, Rahyō, were born in Kirigakure. Because her ancestors were conquered by Kiri, Kahyō was distrusted by the village and considered expendable. After Kahyō married, she and her husband chose to leave Kiri in order to escape this mistreatment. They settled in the Land of Waves, hoping to find freelance ninja work. Although they did indeed find work, they were no more respected there than in Kiri. Disheartened, Kahyō's husband turned to drinking and eventually drowned in a stupor.

Long ago, Kaguya and Isshiki were both sent to cultivate a God Tree on the planet Earth and harvest its Chakra Fruit, with which she was to provide for the main family of her clan from another world. According to Amado Sanzu, Kaguya was a low-ranking member of the clan chosen as a sacrifice to the Ten-Tails, which would nurture the development of the God Tree. Instead, Kaguya desired the chakra fruit herself; betraying Isshiki in the process and leaving him for dead.

Kaito and his team graduated a year before Boruto's class in the Academy. Since then, his team would regularly take missions overseas.

After saving Inari from drowning, he taught the boy everything he knew about life, stressing that he must protect the things that were precious to him, saying to always do so "with these two arms". He eventually married Tsunami, Inari's mother, and became Inari's stepfather as well as role model.

Kahiko was one of the few who knew the true history of his ancestors and the many secrets encompassing the Stone of Gelel, being a descendant of the ore miners of the Gelel source. Kakeru was the benevolent king of the Land of the Moon. His minister and friend, Shabadaba, showed greedy desire to take over as king, to which Kakeru saw but hoped that Shabadaba would one day understand the his noble vision of selflessness and generosity. As time went on, however, Shabadaba showed no improvement, and eventually, Kakeru accepted the advice of his soldiers and decided to deal with the corrupt minister. He sent his son and grandson overseas to protect them from the ensuing conflict.

In the anime, the Third Hokage reported to Kakashi that someone had been slipping through Konoha's Sensing Barrier. Kakoi reported that the possibilities were that there was a traitor who had knowledge of how not to trigger it, of that someone had a jutsu that could break through it. He showed Kakashi reports where the barrier was on high alert, around the self-governing Uchiha district. Hiruzen tasked Kakashi with installing a sensing barrier there without linking back to the Anbu.

During the Third Shinobi World War he was partnered with Taiseki and Mahiru. He most notably engaged Team Minato of Konohagakure, led by Kakashi Hatake. He was successful in capturing Rin Nohara and placed her under a genjutsu, but was unable to extract any information from her.

Because his mother died when he was very young, Kakashi was raised during his early years by his father, Sakumo. Sakumo was famed throughout the shinobi world, having saved Konoha on at least one occasion; Kakashi in particular revered his father.

Kakuzu's Partner

Sometime after defecting from an unknown village, he joined the criminal organisation Akatsuki, becoming Kakuzu's fourth partner. In the anime, during a battle with several shinobi, he was eliminated by Kakuzu, who later, upon being chastised by his teammates, claimed he was too slow and should have simply dodged his attack. Kakuzu later took his heart.

When under the servitude of Takigakure as an elite ninja, Kakuzu took on a mission to assassinate Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage. This mission, however, ended in failure against the God of Shinobi. Despite the insurmountable danger faced on the mission, what awaited his return to his village was the stigma and harsh punishment associated with the failure of his objective. In response to this treatment, a wrong levied against a shinobi who had put life and limb on the line for his village, Kakuzu came to hold a violent hatred for Takigakure as he escaped from imprisonment. In his flight from the village, Kakuzu killed the village elders, took their hearts, and fled with knowledge of the village's most prized forbidden techniques. He made a living off bounty hunting on the black market, and tearing out the still-beating hearts of powerful shinobi to extend his own lifespan and arsenal. At some time in the past, he apparently encountered the Gold and Silver Brothers and witnessed Kinkaku's jinchūriki transformation.

In order to retain his reputation against rival companies, Kaneki pushed forward a dangerous project in one of his chemical plants, even when warned of the high risk. This resulted in an explosion that killed many people. He successfully pinned the blame of the explosion on the deceased project developer, Mikazuki Amaashi.

Kandachi

Sometime after Pain killed Hanzō, Kandachi and a group of Ame ninja fled the country and went into hiding by taking over a village surrounded by a magnetic force that affects a person's chakra flow to the brain similar to genjutsu. Sukune interfered with Kandachi's takeover and resulted in his brutal murder by his summon, the Conch King. He held the women and children hostage and threatened if word of their hiding was leaked outside the village, the hostages would be killed.

When they were little, Kankitsu and Remon grew up together. Sometime later, when Kankitsu reached the age of twenty, a curse mark appeared on his right palm. In order to subdue the curse for another hundred years, Kankitsu was ultimately betrothed to Remon. When he visited the Yoimura household to discuss the date for the wedding ritual, Kankitsu was lured and tricked by Sōma to touch its rock, where the demon possessed him into doing their bidding. This made him become cold toward Remon.

Kanna

Kanna lived in a village whose people were suffering from a strange illness that her mother fell victim to. When Asura and Taizō came to the village to solve their "problem" that Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki had tasked them with solving, she believed they were bandits where she was injured in the scuffle but Asura healed her gaining her trust. Seeing his healing abilities she hoped Asura could save her ailing mother but learned that the God Tree's influence was keeping her sick. When they confronted the elder about this, he revealed because there was nothing that could be done and she was forced to show Asura away.

Kanna (carpenter)

He is the son of a carpenter, who was the master carpenter thirty years prior the series. He supervised the rebuilding of Konohagakure, where he hired a lot of foreign help, among others, Gennō.

Kanyū's parents died when she was young and she was taken in by Mashō, the leader of Ceramic Village and creator of the Hanasaki style. She admired Mashō's skills and decided early on that she wanted to be a ceramist just like him. As such, Mashō gave her a pendant to signal that she was a student of Hanasaki; he would wear a similar pendant to signal that he was her teacher. But shortly afterwards Mashō disappeared, and soon so did all of the other Hanasaki practitioners. Mashō's son, Gōshō, claimed they abandoned the village, but Kanyū didn't believe this. She was convinced that they were looking for a new home where Hanasaki could thrive and awaited their return.

Karai

While returning from a covert mission in the Sugi Village having stolen their kinjutsu Karai, Nigai and the Fourth Raikage are set upon by the mercenary Nokizaru Group who had been hired to retrieve the scroll. Though they fled, an Exploding Insect was implanted into them microscopically and after they berated the Raikage, an irate Nigai attacked the group only to explode. Following the same vein, Karai attacked them but stopped before he could be killed. Later, Amai, another comrade and medical-nin attempted to heal him but to no avail. Eventually, despite his initial protest, Tsunade was sought out to heal him, and the insect was removed by Shizune while Amai helped conduct the surgery.

Karashi was bullied before meeting Rock Lee, and saw Rock Lee as a strong person and role model. However, he chose to join Raiga Kurosuki's family, due to seeing how hard Rock Lee worked to improve his skills as a shinobi, thus concluding that power is everything.

The two were allowed to stay, provided that the mother would use her powers to heal the injured of the village under watch by Zōsui. As the fighting broke-out, the mother was forced to regularly over-use her powers. Eventually, she died from healing too many people at once. This led the leaders of Kusagakure to pass on her former duties to Karin.

In the anime, Karin and her mother were allowed to take refuge in Kusagakure, on the condition that her mother healed the village's wounded under watch by Zōsui. After the village suffered many casualties following a surprise attack, her mother upheld her duties and healed the wounded at the Kusagakure hospital, where she died after transferring too much chakra to the wounded. Immediately afterwards, the duty was passed onto Karin, much to her disapproval.

Karyū was born into a clan of Lava Release users. Unlike villages such as Kumogakure where lava users are well-regarded, Karyū lived in a small village where they were only ever treated as disposable weapons of war. For this reason, his clansmen tended to die young. Karyū did not want that fate for himself and so fled his village. His village pursued him and would eventually have found and killed him, but first he was found by Fūshin.

Kashike

Kashike is a friend of Abiru, Tsuchino, and Tomari and used to play football with them around Sunagakure. After Gaara accidentally attacked them while trying to play with them, Gaara brought Kashike ointment to apologise. Kashike refused his generosity and called Gaara a freak. He remains scared of Gaara, and most other things to this day. During his days at the academy, Kashike and his three friends chased Shira away since he couldn't enter the academy due to his lack of skills in ninjutsu and genjutsu.

For this reason he joined Tenma and Hagiri in bullying Itachi Uchiha, though he was secretly afraid to face Itachi. Despite being much younger than all of them, Itachi easily defeated them once a fight broke out.

After the Fourth Great Shinobi War, Katasuke headed up an effort to help all surviving war causalities recover from their maiming injuries. He would often visit and pester Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage, for approval on various new projects, ultimately getting well-acquainted with the Hokage's family. He developed an advanced form of prosthetics that would allow people to return to normal life. One of his patients was Ao. At some point, he learned of Chamaru's injury and contacted Akita Inuzuka to tell her that he'd make the ninken a prosthetic limb. Upon doing so, the dog made a full recovery, and Akita became his assistant.

Kageki had loaned money to Shikazo but after the birth of his child, he asked to be repaid by him but Shikazo refused and a scuffle broke out which resulted him hitting his head on a rock hard enough to kill him. Kageki went to Katazu after that and he took his brother's identity while Kageki and his family went into hiding. Katazu purposely attracted Shikazo's pursuers while they went into hiding.

At some point during the Second Shinobi World War, Katsuyu was summoned to the battlefield, alongside Gamabunta and Manda.

As a child, he lived alone with his drunken, abusive father, Kokatsu. In the anime, he was forced to chop wood for a living in order to buy alcohol for Kokatsu. One day, a goldfish merchant invited him to a goldfish show that he was holding the next day after Kawaki had shown interest in the goldfish. Later, his father noticed the invitation in his pocket and punished Kawaki for interacting with strangers by forbidding him dinner. The next day, Kawaki was beaten by two boys until the goldfish merchant saved him and offered him a job by helping him sell goldfish in other villages. Kawaki hurried home after noticing the crack in the glass of his father's alcohol. Giving nothing but broken glass, Kawaki was locked in a room by Kokatsu.

Kawarama Senju

During the war-torn era before the creation of the shinobi villages, Kawarama was one of the many young shinobi who were put on the battlefield to fight. At a young age, he became a shinobi with outstanding talent, but nevertheless became a casualty to the Uchiha and the Hagoromo clan during the ever-waging battles. When the remains of Kawarama's body were retrieved, it was buried alongside other fallen comrades, in a coffin etched with the Senju symbol on it. His brothers Hashirama, Tobirama, and Itama Senju mourned his loss, with Hashirama claiming that Kawarama had died a pointless death and at such a young age. This greatly angered their father Butsuma, who struck Hashirama and told him that Kawarama had died as a true shinobi.

Since coming to Hōzuki Castle, Kedama was very rebellious to the guards. His constant fighting against them earned him high praise from the other inmates. He grew especially close to the fellow inmate, Kiku. Together, they formed a plan to escape the prison. The plan required a lot of rain and Kiku predicted that it would soon rain. On the night of the plan, with no rain in sight, Kedama decided to stay in his cell, concluding that the plan would have to be postponed. Upon learning that Kiku was right and it rained hard, Kedama rushed to join his friend. To his horror, he discovered Kiku being struck down by Benga. Smuggling admitting that Kedama's plan would have worked if he arrived on time, Benga decided to punish Kedama by telling all the guards and inmates that Kedama sold his best friend out. Soon afterwards, as Benga wanted, the other inmates turned on Benga and became docile again.

Kazuma

Kazuma was once part of the Twelve Guardian Ninja. At some point, he had a son, Sora, who he left in the care of the monks of the Fire Temple. Over time, he and five other members developed a radical new view of safety and stability for the Land of Fire. Feeling that Konohagakure's more passive methods of protecting the country were ineffective, Kazuma's faction decided to do away with the ninja village. They did this with the goal of restoring full authority of the country and its military resources to the Fire Daimyō, thereby uniting their country under one king. At the same time, their new ambitions for the Land of Fire including using this newfound "unity" to invade and conquer the other countries of the world. When it became clear that the Fire Daimyō would not back this plan, Kazuma attempted to assassinate the ruler, only to be stopped by Asuma Sarutobi. After a long fight, Kazuma, Asuma, and Chiriku were left as the only surviving members of the Twelve Guardian Ninja. Kazuma then had one final showdown with Asuma, where he was ultimately struck down. Chiriku was the only one who knew about this, and kept it a secret.

At a very young age, Akamaru was given to Kiba by his mother, Tsume, and the two became very close soon afterwards. Before entering the Academy, Kiba and Akamaru played together a great deal, resulting in Tsume getting angry because they weren't training enough. During Kiba's time at the Academy, he often cut class with Akamaru, stating that he wasn't suited to sit still at a desk, or otherwise getting into trouble, along with Chōji Akimichi, Shikamaru Nara, and Naruto Uzumaki. Together, these four would skip class and go to the practice hall (not to practice). They thought that it was fun to also test the patience of Iruka Umino, their Academy instructor. One day, Kiba fell asleep during class and, upon waking, saw Naruto attempting to use the Transformation Technique to turn into the Third Hokage for the first time, and failing twice. This caused Kiba to find Naruto incompetent, and he became among those who ridiculed him.

Kido was raised by his father and mother, the former of whom dedicated all of his income to send Kido to the Academy, so that he could have a higher chance at a better life. However, when his father began faking taking his medicine to save money for Kido's schooling, he eventually succumbed to his sickness. Because of this, Kido grew an addiction to money. In time, Kido became a powerful and skilled shinobi like his father dreamed him to be, strong enough to attract the attention of Danzō Shimura, who placed him in Root. Over time, Kido became the organisation's treasurer and was even rumoured to have financed, laundered and monitored all of Danzō's finances for his unsanctioned operations. With Root's disbandment upon its leader's death, Kido became an Anbu executive.

In search of peace, Kie joined the independent group called Akatsuki. During one of the ordeals he and his comrades had to go through, Kie was injured and had to wear a sling on his arm. Later, during a gathering of Akatsuki members, he reaffirmed to Konan his own and the others' endorsement of Nagato and Yahiko.

Kiiro was born into a family of bee users. By tradition, only the firstborn, Kodaka, was taught how to control the bees, and it was the responsibility of Kiiro, as the secondborn, to protect Kodaka. Kiiro resented this responsibility, believing he could make better use of the bees and that giving his life to protect Kodaka, which was expected of him, would be a waste of his talents. Kiiro did not hide these feelings from Kodaka.

In the anime, the Sound Four were originally prisoners of Orochimaru, forced to fight other prisoners to the death in battle royales. By surviving their respective matches, they proved themselves to be the strongest of Orochimaru's prisoners and as such were made his bodyguards. The Sound Four were at some point forced to accept Kimimaro as their leader, who easily defeated them all in battle and, because of this, their group became known as the Sound Five (音隠れの忍五人衆, Otogakure no Shinobi Gonin Shū, literally meaning: Hidden Sound Shinobi Five People).

During his time at Hōzuki Castle, Kiku befriended Kedama, who he admired for his defiant attitude towards the guards. Together, the two came up with a plan to escape the prison. Kiku had learned to predict the weather from the clouds from his fisherman father, and determined that despite the good weather, it would soon rain, which he and Kedama intended to use to get rid of the Heavenly Prison seal on them. Kiku proceeded with their plan, but Kedama was late, as he had doubted Kiku's rain prediction until it was too late. Because of that, Kiku was caught by Benga, who activated the seal, Kedama arriving just in time to watch Kiku die.

He grew up and trained alongside his friend, Yurinojō, who shared a friendly rivalry with him. When still kids, he and Yurinojō developed a huge crush on Tsunade and fought for her affection. Since a young age, Kikunojō showed tremendous talent for ninja arts and earned great fame throughout the Land of Vegetables. He was later chosen as a personal guard to the daimyō.

At a young age, he was along with several other children who were gathered by the Third Raikage and Dodai in order to select a tag partner for his son A. Out of all the children gathered, he was the only person able to successfully perform the Lightning Release: Double Lariat with A. As such he was given the name "B", and A stated they would be brothers from that day on. Since the age of five, B has been best friends with Motoi, whom he always greeted with a fist bump. After A's cousin, the jinchūriki of Gyūki lost control and killed Motoi's father along with seven other ninja on that day, B was chosen as its next jinchūriki. Soon afterwards, B suffered from similar prejudices against jinchūriki, not too different from that the villagers of Konohagakure and Sunagakure had against Naruto Uzumaki and Gaara respectively. However, he kept smiling and pushed himself to be the best jinchūriki that he could be, so that his brother wouldn't be hurt politically as the Fourth Raikage.

Being a rare possessor of his clan's Shikotsumyaku kekkei genkai, the clan patriarch feared Kimimaro's abilities and had him locked up in a cage unless needed for battle. The Kaguya clan was wiped out when they attacked Kirigakure, seemingly for no reason other than the desire to kill and show off their ferocity. Having underestimated their opponents' defences, they were slaughtered, with Kimimaro the sole survivor. Wandering soon after, Kimimaro was eventually found by Orochimaru, and recruited as one of his most loyal ninja. In the anime, Kimimaro met Haku and Zabuza upon their departure from the Land of Water. Haku appeared to sympathise with Kimimaro for his loneliness and lack of purpose by looking into eyes. However, he was forced to keep moving by Zabuza, and left Kimimaro to be.

When Kina was an infant, his father, Tenma Kodon, attacked the Howling Wolf Village with the ancient monster, Rōen, in an attempt to convince the village to preserve its shinobi ways. He lost control of Rōen during the attack and Kina's mother died in an unsuccessful attempt to seal it back into the Kodon shrine it was historically imprisoned within. Tenma's only option to save the village was to seal it into his son. Tenma tried to seal it into Kina's older brother, Reishi, but Reishi's body was incompatible. Only Kina's body was. The seal was placed on the back of his head, so that as got older the seal would be hidden by his hair. The village was saved, but Tenma had died doing so.

During the First Raikage's reign, he and Ginkaku were part of a team that was assigned to capture the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, but the two were swallowed during the confrontation. However, they survived by eating the flesh of the beast, and thrashed inside the tailed beast's stomach for two weeks, eventually forcing the Nine-Tails to regurgitate them. Upon their escape, they both came out looking like miniature versions of the beast, due to having acquired a portion of the fox's chakra.

Growing up with her father, Kiri looked up to him in how he was both such a strong and wise leader. Upon her father passing away suddenly, Kiri succeeded him and became the village head of Green Banks. Afterwards, the village was attacked by Pale Blue Valley, with the intention of forcing Kiri to hand over the deed to village's bridge her father had built.

Kiruru and his team took part in the same Chūnin Exams as Itachi Uchiha. When, during the exams' second stage, they found Itachi travelling through the Forest of Death alone, they attacked him, expecting it would be easy to take his scroll. After falling prey to Itachi's Crow Clone Technique, having his fire overpower their water, and finally glimpsing his Sharingan, Kiruru and his teammates surrendered their scroll in exchange for being allowed to live. Itachi accepted, but knocked them unconscious in case they tried to follow him.

The leaders of Konoha had suspicions that there was a spy within their midst and Kisuke was assigned with the task of finding out who that person was. His investigations led him to an upcoming shinobi, Sabiru. One night, he tracked down Sabiru in a forest, and after discovering he was the spy he engaged him in battle. After a short fight, Sabiru deceived him with a shadow clone and threw him in the river below. He managed to grab a rock, but Sabiru appeared on top of it, saying he had already killed his wife and burned down his house. He then proceeded to extract Kisuke's soul from his body, sealing it in a tag, which was left attached to the rock.

Originally, Kisame was to guard the Cypher Division under orders from his superior, Fuguki Suikazan of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. When the group was cornered by Konoha-nin under Ibiki Morino during a mission, Kisame chose to kill the Cypher Division members to keep their intel from being leaked out through Ibiki's interrogation, as instructed by Fuguki.

She was murdered inside her own home while her husband Kisuke Maboroshi was away. Their house was subsequently set on fire while her body was still inside. It was later revealed that it was Sabiru who had killed her.

Kiseru claims he was born in a mountain village near the border with Takigakure, where he enjoyed hot springs with his grandfather, though he later admitted this was a lie. He eventually moved to Konoha, where he became an Anbu and met Konohamaru Sarutobi. At some point, he became part of a multi-village team investigating several mass disappearances alongside a treasured friend.

While he was still alive, he was part of the Twelve Guardian Ninja. Ten years before the start of the series, when six of the members tried a coup d'etat, he alongside Asuma Sarutobi, Chiriku, Nauma, Tōu, and Seito fought against them, only to be killed by Kazuma when Kitane and the three other lightning users tried to use Limelight on Kazuma.

His younger brother, Kiiro, always envied Kodaka, not only because he believed he was more deserving of the family's secrets, but because he, as the secondborn, was expected to give his life to protect Kodaka.

After his father's murder and the investigation going nowhere over lack of evidence, Kodama and Hibiki became dedicated to avenging their father by finding the killer, who was a proficient Wind Release user and was left with a cross shaped scar after the encounter with their father. They would go from village to village attacking ex-shinobi who were Wind Release users, though they never killed any of their victims, leaving only cross shaped tears on their clothing to identify them. Kodama and his sister would then spend a year in Konoha trying to find ex-shinobi who were Wind Release users.

During the Nine-Tails' attack, she received a severe injury to her back, which her son Iruka noticed, causing him to wish to stay and protect her. Despite her injuries, she was more concerned about Iruka's welfare. Her name, along with her husband's, was added to the Konoha Memorial Stone after they died.

Koji was created as an alternate plan against Isshiki after Amado's plan for using augmented cyborg Outers was shut down by Jigen. In the anime, Koji witnessed Kawaki being confronted by Garō and the young boy unconsciously activated his Kāma and blasted Garō. At some point later, Koji was present with Victor, observing the former Kirigakure shinobi Ao's rehabilitation.

In the anime, Kokatsu was apparently a former shinobi who was a hero from the Fourth Shinobi World War, though many doubted the claim given his boorish nature. Whatever hardships he had to endure ultimately took its toll on him, leaving him a bitter man who took solace in drinking. Eventually, he would have a son, Kawaki. Kokatsu was abusive towards Kawaki. One night, after locking Kawaki away for accidentally breaking his bottle of alcohol, Jigen arrives to their home to buy Kawaki from him. Kokatsu without hesitation agreed to the offer, openly disowning Kawaki and leaving his small house with his newfound profit.

While originally trying to become a ninja, he failed in it, ultimately instead become an accountant. He was hired by a company to handle their money. Eventually, he learned that it was front for the Mujina Bandits. Horrified that he was helping such a shady organisation with all their stolen money, he ran away. In such a haste, he also took the recent stolen money with him. After narrowly escaping his former employers, Kokuri decided to start life anew, beginning with donating the stolen money to a medical centre. Shortly afterwards, he chanced upon a pick-pocketing between a man and a woman. He knocked out the man to help, only to later find out that it was the woman who was the thief. He was arrested as an accomplice to the woman and sent to the Hōzuki Castle.

Wanting to rule over the Nadeshiko Village, Kokuyō challenged the leader, Shizuka, in an attempt to defeat her so she would be forced to marry him per the village's rules. Komushi grew up during the tenure of the Third Kazekage, where he primarily worked as a messenger for Chiyo to her grandson Sasori, with whom he had a friendly relationship. During a border-patrol mission Komushi was wounded and subsequently lost an arm. This was later replaced by Sasori with that of a puppet as a prosthetic limb. Later he ingested some of Sasori's poison by mistake and died while Chiyo tried to save him. Because he knew Sasori would be blamed, Komushi's last request was that Sasori would not be blamed for his own careless mistake. Due to his mother's pleading to bring Komushi back to her, Sasori later turned him into a human puppet.

Some time after being created, the Sage explained to the young tailed beasts that a link existed between them despite their separation. He also foretold of a day when they would be brought together again - though not as they were - and that at that time someone would emerge to show them what true power is. In the anime, before his death, Hagoromo sent Kokuō to live in a temple built for the purpose of protecting it in a forest region.

When she was young, Konan's family was killed during the Second Shinobi World War, and she was left to fend for herself. Some time later, Yahiko found her, and the two worked together to survive. Not long after that, Konan went for a walk and found a young, dying Nagato and his dog, Chibi. She rescued him and brought him back to their hideout. Gradually the three became best friends. They eventually encountered the Sannin, who gave them some food. Konan impressed them by making an elaborate flower out of the paper wrappers left behind as a sign of gratitude. When Orochimaru suggested to kill them so they would not have to suffer the horrors of war, Jiraiya instead opted to stay and teach the three how to look after themselves.

Konohamaru was born into the Sarutobi clan and was named after Konoha by his grandfather. While being raised by his Anbu parents, Konohamaru was never referred to by his name by the villagers, only ever called "Honourable Grandson" (お孫様, Omago-sama) because of his relationship to the Hokage. Wanting to be acknowledged as a person and not simply the Hokage's grandson, Konohamaru began trying to defeat Hiruzen in order to replace him as Hokage.

When he was still a child, he made a reckless decision that cost him the lives of his teammates. Ashamed of this, he felt he was not worthy of being promoted beyond the rank of genin. Despite this, he continued to train arduously to improve his skills, something that was insisted upon him by Tobirama Senju. Kosuke would remain a genin for over fifty years, thus the reason others called him the Eternal Genin. During this time, Kosuke would serve under the Second, Third, and Fourth Hokage. At other points, he fought alongside the Legendary Sannin, Konoha's White Fang, and the previous generation of Ino-Shika-Chō trio. He also seems to be one of the few people who knew about the true identity of Naruto Uzumaki as the Fourth's son. At some point he lost one of his legs, presumably in battle, and had it replaced with a sword he conceals with a prosthetic foot.

As a child, her father would tell her about "spring", a season that did not exist in the perpetual-wintered Land of Snow. She would happily await her father's project in bringing spring to the land, and was given a key for that "treasure". However, her paternal uncle Dotō Kazahana staged a coup d'état and killed her father for his treasure, leaving Koyuki emotionally scarred for ten years. She was saved by Kakashi Hatake during his early days as an Anbu and fled from the region.

During the Third Shinobi World War, Kosuke was part of a team of hunter-nin sent after Rin Nohara. When Rin was killed by Kakashi Hatake, Obito Uchiha who had witnessed the killing and who had been in love with Rin responded by slaughtering Kosuke and his team in a fit of grief, with Kosuke being one of the first victims of Obito's rampage.

Kozuchi lived with his grandfather following the elderly man's retirement. Later, he died while fighting a group of missing-nin who were stealing the secrets of Iwagakure.

In the anime, captaining a team of genin, the shinobi were tasked with retrieving Condor from the Zeroth Training Ground. Encountering the ostrich, he was beaten up multiple times, during which Izumo Kamizuki arrived to assist him, followed by the pair capturing Condor.

After the Fūma Clan finished a war with a neighbouring country, they wandered the Land of Rice Fields hoping to settle down. Near the end of their journey, Orochimaru and Kimimaro appeared before the Fūma and told them that if they joined Otogakure that Orochimaru would help in restoring their power. Kotohime agreed and went with them. Orochimaru taught her how to play a koto at some point.

Four hundred years ago, Kuen confronted Sōma, an evil spirit that steals memories. She managed to seal the demon inside of her body. However, with the rapidly draining memories in her, Kuen failed to slice off both emerging horns to complete the seal. Instead, it was sealed in a nearby rock with a portion of it staying within Kuen. Sōma's curse left Kuen forever purged of her memories, leading her to step down as the shrine maiden and to bear twin children which the curse was passed down to her descendants.

The Kamizuru clan fell from grace due to conflict with the Aburame clan of Konohagakure in the past. Like the Aburame clan, the Kamizuru focused on the utilisation of bugs in their techniques. They sought the legendary bikōchū in the hopes it would help in the revitalisation of their clan. Kurobachi's grandfather, the First Tsuchikage, then hid away his forbidden secrets so they couldn't be used against the clan.

During the Second Shinobi World War, he was assigned to a team with Tsunade, Dan Katō and another unnamed shinobi. After Dan was gravely injured, Kunugi watched on as Tsunade tried to save his life but realising that, with so many of his vital organs directly injured, and even with Tsunade's aid, there was little to no hope of doing so. He later tells Tsunade to stop with the medical treatment as Dan had already passed away and restrained her when she broke down after failing to save Dan's life.

As a child, Kurenai met Asuma Sarutobi during the Academy entrance ceremony where the two quickly became friends. She graduated at age 9. In the anime, during the Chūnin Exams, Kurenai was placed in a team with Asuma and Raidō Namiashi. She later was cheering for her classmates during the third round of the Chūnin Exams. Eventually becoming a chūnin at age 13, Kurenai became a jōnin shortly before Team 8 was formed.

In the anime, Kyūsuke at some point left Amegakure, having grown tired of Hanzō's rule. He and his comrades began stealing from villages to survive. One day, they came to the village that was protected by a newly-formed and small group called Akatsuki. As the trio easily repelled Kyūsuke and his comrades, Kyūsuke asked if they were working for Hanzō. The leader of the group, Yahiko, said they are not, but do share his goal of creating peace. Kyūsuke was untrusting of Yahiko and his views but after seeing the sincerity of Yahiko, Kyūsuke and his comrades ultimately decided to join Akatsuki. While offering to be subordinates, Yahiko refused to think of them as anything less than comrades. Kyūsuke soon became responsible for spreading the reputation of Akatsuki and handling requests for the Akatsuki's assistance. He was also presumably responsible for most of the reconnaissance for Akatsuki, having claimed his legs are incredibly fast and would gladly take on any intel gather job. At some point, Kyūsuke developed feelings for Konan of the Akatsuki's founding trio. She politely rejected his request to accept his feelings, saying she was too busy striving for peace to have a relationship, to which Kyūsuke politely accepted.
