Chapter 784: Heading to the Cromwell Kingdom?
Adrianâs gaze bore down on the imperial twins. He didnât release any killing intent, but the sheer pressure he gave off was suffocating enough.
So suffocating that even the guards stationed outside his study shifted uncomfortably.
But the strange part⊠the strange part was that whatever Adrian seemed to do didnât have any effect on the twins.
They remained calm and composed.
Silence.
The king was inwardly shocked and couldnât help the thought forming in his mind.
âThese people⊠theyâre not Awakened. Even normal Awakened wouldnât be this calm, so why are theyâŠ?â
His thoughts drifted back to a few books he had read about Imperia. The information wasnât detailed, as even the author clearly lacked concrete knowledge about them, but there was one thing he remembered.
âThe Imperians⊠are unique. From birth they have already surpassed all human limits, and even their fighting style is formless⊠by formless, I mean theyâre unpredictable.â
âCould this be the reason?â
There was a provocative smile at the corner of the female twinâs lips, clearly enjoying this.
âLike I said before, Your Majesty⊠we are only here for tourist attraction,â Soren said, that carefree and warm smile still on his face.
Adrian didnât believe a word. In terms of beauty, Vermilion Kingdom wasnât even top three in the Human Domain. If they wanted tourism, what happened to Snowhelm?
Although cold, and though Vermilion didnât see eye to eye with them, their ice landscape was undeniably beautiful.
Apart from that, there was Valerian Kingdom as well⊠noble and elegant, even their language was eloquent.
Vermilion Kingdom wasnât even that large anymore after the split from the western region.
There was no way he would believe these two came simply for tourism.
âI will repeat myself again.â Adrianâs tone grew even colder.
But despite his intimidation, the twins maintained their calm exterior.
âTruly, one of the reasons weâre here is because we wanted to see how the Vermilion Kingdom got rid of demons at the same time Imperia did⊠we figured youâd be quite interesting. And others as well.â
Adrian narrowed his eyes. He vaguely had an idea where this conversation was heading.
âSo you heard about it?â he asked, gaze fixed on them.
Soren gave a sheepish smile, as if heâd been caught doing something wrong.
Adrianâs expression tightened slightly.
So that was it.
They wanted information.
âYou came all this way because of the Awakening?â he asked slowly.
Soren nodded once. âIn Imperia, the balance of power is everything. A new class appearing⊠is significant.â
âAnd dangerous,â Selene added bluntly. âIf youâre all still alive after a demon invasion, it must be because of that Beast Tamer thing. So weâre curious. Thatâs all.â
Adrian frowned. âYou two are far too calm for people visiting a foreign kingdom.â
Selene tilted her head. âDo we need permission to breathe now?â
Soren sighed internally. âplease Forgive her your majesty, She lacks⊠refinement.â
âExcuse you?â she snapped.
Adrian raised a hand. âEnough. Iâll decide how to deal with you soon. For now, you may explore the kingdom.â
When the twins were gone, he motioned to a knight. âEscort them out of the palace. Keep your distanceâbut donât lose sight of them.â
âYes, Your Majesty!â
â
MeanwhileâOutside the Palace
The cool evening breeze brushed against the siblingsâ hair as they stepped out into Vermilionâs bustling capital. Lanterns glowed along the streets, and vendors still shouted over each other despite the late hour.
Soren glanced sideways.
ââŠTheyâre following us.â
Selene didnât bother turning her head. âObviously. The king doesnât really trust us.â
A soft chuckle escaped him. âCan you blame him? We showed up unannounced from the furthest kingdom.â
She shrugged, kicking a pebble off the stone walkway. âSo whatâs now? We just walk around like tourists?â
âFor now, yes,â he replied, hands tucked calmly behind his back. âAct normal.â
They strolled down the main street, passing through the market area. The bright glow of lanterns lit up displays of fruits and spices.
Surprisingly, live beasts were caught and kept in cages as well.
âBuy your quality wolf cub! Super strong and fast!â
The twins paused. It was the first time in their lives theyâd seen mutated beasts being sold openly on the streets.
Of course, they knew wealthy individuals purchased rare monsters at auctions for the nutrients they provided.
They continued forward moments later, seeing more stalls selling beast. Children accompanied by their parents could be seen purchasing this beast.
Not far behind, shadowing them poorly, were four Vermilion knights.
Selene smirked. âTheyâre not even trying to be subtle.â
One of the knights almost tripped when she said that loudly.
Soren shook his head lightly. âDonât tease them. Theyâre only doing what they were ordered.â
âHmph.â
They continued walking, slowing as they reached an open square. Musicians played soft tunes. People went on with their lives as if the recent demonic invasion hadnât scorched half the region.
Soren inhaled quietly.
âThis kingdom really is recovering fast.â
Selene didnât answer at first. Her eyes swept over the crowd⊠then the guards again.
Finally, she muttered, ââŠSo. If the king doesnât trust us, do we continue with the plan or change it?â
âContinue,â Soren whispered. âThis is the perfect cover.â
Selene raised a brow. âCover for what?â
He tucked his hands into his pockets and smiled faintly. âFinding out what kind of power this Beast Taming class really is.â
Soren and Selene crossed a stone bridge overlooking the river that cut through the capital.
The guards still trailed them.
They stopped at the center of the bridge, the river shimmering beneath as lanterns flickered on its surface.
Selene leaned over the railing. âDo you think the king noticed?â
âThat we intend to leave the capital?â Soren smiled. âDefinitely.â
She raised a brow. âAnd youâre still calm?â
âHe needs us to stay predictable. So weâll pretend we are.â
Selene hummed, then turned aroundâlocking eyes with one of the distant guards, who immediately looked away.
She grinned. âIâm going to enjoy making their lives miserable.â
âDonât,â he warned.
âIâll tryâŠâ she grumbled. Then she looked at him and asked, âSo what now?â
Soren turned to the west and muttered, ââŠWe head toward Cromwell Kingdom. The Emperorâs intel says thatâs the kingdom of the one who started everything⊠Nox Cromwell.â
